Yes they'll moult their first flights on their 2nd nests. The drawback being when the longer races come around they'll be on or around their 5th flight, it is regarded once on their 5th they're past their best. Another factor to consider is its said that rearing a pair of babies is equivalent of them having a 500 mile race so you'll be taking a lot out of them even before the season has begun.

Whilst I agree about the moult, starts 6th Day after laying their first egg next round, I didn't  agree that they are past the best neccesarily. Believe  when the next flight is two 3rds up that the have the extra energy.

Hi Phillips,It may take a bit out of them breeding 2 rounds,but not necessary so,nice way to test your birds before you waste any money in the races,any birds that struggle to bring up youngsters bin straight away,also if your mostly sprint minded,moult will hold no fears for you,you will know what`s what before longest races come mid-end june.

Who cares less what mr kirkland does or does not do,he has plenty of backup if things go wrong ,unlike many back garden fanciers.

if your breeding out of yearlings two rounds you will pay for it in racing . :'(
