for new starters

ive said this before but i think it would be a great idea if we had maybe 2 different threads that where on 1 there was info given out on how to feed and care for lost birds when a member of the public comes on we can direct him  or her too the thread

 

also another thread where someone is interested setting up a new loft and new birds and just wants the basics on how to take care of them  because if they were to look through some of threads and see us talking about meds disease like para cocci worms and all the rest that goes with it can get confusing

 

wouldn't it be an idea if lets say 4 members put there heads together put up the info a few pics inside of lofts  just an easy step by step guide really on the general upkeep of pigeons only thing is i think this thread should only have the input of a few members  and there views on the real basics of our sport and then closed so it doesn't get to hard to understand or go off the point

 

what does the webmaster or mods think or is there a need  for something like this

Really bad ideal about info to feed and care for lost birds,would cause massive problems for fanciers,better to have stray loft centers in most cities/towns,run by old timers,who could get basic feed like barley wheat,beans ect straight farmstuff,paid by rpra,whu ect,then charge fanciers £5 per bird to bin,any originaly off studs,name and shame, any wanted back £25 or whatever .

    Old timers would enjoy looking after the birds and feeling important .

    1,000`s of rubbish get binned,healthier fancy in general.

    Any real pedigree stuff not wanted back would/could be auctioned/sold off .

    With the right management and backup,this could be paying for itself in very short time,and with a bit of twicking could provide a fair profit for the fancy.

Feeding and care for a bird usualy is pretty basic but each case is individual as some may just be flown out and tired whilst others could be injured  . However a few tips can be applied

1)  Ensure bird is safe from peditors and try to capture  and retain in a box  

2)  most birds will carry identification rings that will enable return to there owner and often if a race bird maybe carrying a wing stamp which can be read by opening the wing

3) Pigeons need food and water some rice will do temporaly but a pigeon corn mix from a petshop be much better 2 tablespoons am and pm is enough to feed the bird for a day .

 

 

The begiiners loft wouldnt be a bad idea perhaps the next time i come across a new starter , i will be willing to mentor them and take them through building a loft or buying ectra , maybe create step by step threads so can be followed by others that may come along and perhaps put them on sticky in the novice and new starter section

Something sensible like simple realistic basics. No ego trippers spout codswallop to try and impress you mean. Great idea! And 4 realists set up for the purpose of answering 'Novice status'  and members of the public is brill.

Well !!!!!!!!!!!!!, (grin grin) that's not to hard to solve etc. Let those that would be prepared to offer advise & their time/wisdom (shall we say) to newcomers, nominate to the webmaster for the positions. Then, "throw them all in a pot" (wink wink) & pick out four. "Problem solved".

PS, Not a bad idea, the way I look at things.
