FLAPPER 123 Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 can anyone give an oppinion as to why my ybs wont fly for more than 10 minutes.... about 3-4 weeks ago they were ranging/flying for about 1 hour and a quarter and coming straight in when i called them, now when i let them out by the time i have cleaned out (about 10 mins) they are back on the loft.and all they want to do is chase each other all over the loft roof. they look and feel in good health, and get between 1 oz and 1 1/4 oz per day each given 1/3rd after morning excercise and the rest at tea time (sometimes they leave some and dont seem that hungry) could because some of them are pairing up be the reason they wont fly??? any advise please??? thanks.
pjc Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 it is a good possibility they have got to know that when they come down and you have cleaned out that you are going to feed them and have got lazy. Are you training them yet? Phil
just ask me Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 what type corn u feeding them u might have to change to a lighter feed
FLAPPER 123 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 hi phil, no im not training them yet as i though once they start getting training they stop flying well round home.....but they are not flying at all round home now so maybe training might get them going again??? my own impression is they seem lazy...
FLAPPER 123 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Report Posted June 27, 2008 just ask me im feeding beyers premium mix which seems to have a lot of small seed in...if i give them 1 oz per day they are hungry, if i give then 1 1/4 oz they leave some.
just ask me Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 im not 100 percent sure on the content of this mix but try lighten it down a bit with some depurative should help and a couple of tosses too should help
Guest shadow Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 feed 25% barley to lighten the feed and get them training as soon as they are back get them in and give them a very light feed
Roland Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 No prob... normal, just waiting for the first chucks. They know where they are and the love of flying is pasted a bit. Just need a few chucks near the first race.
Wiley Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 Personally i would say that the birds, have become sexually active, hence the reason for not flying if its possible split the sexes
billy wilson Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 you cant judge when you say you give them between 1oz to 1ozand a 1/4 per day some young birds are greedy other birds only eat what they want to eat they all dont like the same thing some of mine love to eat maize others go for all the small stuff, its okay if they were fed in the boxes like old birds but its alot different with youngsters some youngsters are going for a drink long before others, some eat more than others end of story maybe they could be hungry on there first flight in the morning and thats why they dont fly this is only my opinion, you could always get them tested to se if theres anything wrong stopping them flying,on the other hand mabe kneed training the only trouble is once they start training they wont fly much around the lofts its a no win situation i guess. billy
big don Posted June 27, 2008 Report Posted June 27, 2008 hi flapper i had the same problem 3 weeks ago they were pairing up and all they wanted to do was get back to the loft . i decided to split the cocks from the hens now they fly for fun . let vthem run together once a week that shud do the trick don
Guest IB Posted June 28, 2008 Report Posted June 28, 2008 Couple of mine are pairing up and they do the same thing, so reckon its because they are more interested in getting down to business. Same dilemna, don't think they have done enough ranging, but thinking maybe time to start them on the road ... but then again, its only 2 for the time being.
jimmy white Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 could be the reasons as above , but i think yb,s [even pairing stage] should fly longer than this , i would tend to have their droppings tested [just as a precautionary measure] and make sure there is no respiratory probs, b4 any training .good luck
schouwman71 Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Det them trained bud, dusnt matter how long they fly around home 5 mins or 1 hr,training them to come straight home is all that matters,if there keen at mating all id do is train them forget about them flying good around home, that dusnt make them win races, training does. Les
FLAPPER 123 Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 thanks for all the advise...i think your all right, they arnt flying because they are pairing up... half of my yb team are pairing so they are influencing the rest of them, all the ones that are paired up are paired to their nestmates...even when its 2 cocks theyve paired together... thanks.
schouwman71 Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 by the way, nice youngster in the aviatar bud. Les
