I'd give her a bowl on the floor and lock the box unless the cock perches there. Other than that if you realy don't want her to lay on the floor when she has laid first egg on the floor put pot egg in it's place and shut her in box when she is due to lay second then give her her first egg back.

i always use to have a hen that layed on the floor no matter what you done she would go off the lay if you shut her in the box left her to it on the floor best young birds i ever had from the hen on the floor .

I've had many good Yb raised on the floor. Before she lays keep an eye on her and see wher she nest building and put a bowl there and maybe something leant against the wall to give her a bit of cover and privacy.

If mine lay on the floor, I remove the egg and nest, and put them in their box. Both cock and hen are locked in box till hen lays her second. Never had any bother after that.

Have only ever let birds nest on floor once in 1960's. Both youngsters were scalped. Have never allowed it since. My sections are also quite narrow so its my clumsiness that's their main danger down there nowadays.

Very true and good post.

Had problem where a hen found a way under the loft. Never happy after, and didn't I wished I'd never given her the chance! But the Floor, well stich two bricks around them!

Never had any trouble with any on the floor mine used to start in their nestboxes but quite lot never stayed there always been a great believer leave them where they are happy and want to be especially if they are your race birds   I tried the bit of locking them in the boxes until they laid and ive had birds give up their eggs soon as you let them out and go on the floor to lay again would never bother doing it again with them

totally agree Rose
