Guest karl adams Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 the best thing to do is just keep him in his box with water and food close bye and let him have lots of rest
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 thanks karl he leg is very swollen would u advice a remove the ring or will it be ok
Guest karl adams Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 ring should be ok if you try to remove it it may do more harm then good i have 2 birds that had the same thing happen to them but they are fine now apart from a limp
OLDYELLOW Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 keep turning the ring forward and back Damian as could stop the circulisation to leg
Leroy Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 try to make sure there isnt an obstruction stuck under the ring - had this once but didnt notice it in time, had to cut the ring off, swelling went down within 48hrs
Guest Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 try and hold the leg in cold water for a few mintes a couple of times a day it will help the swelling go down.ATB les.
molly Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Hi I would give half of ibprofen in the morning and half at night for two days it wont hert him thats what the vets would give its for swelling and pain.
Guest shadow Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 if you have to cut the ring of you would be unable to race or show the bird that is really the last thing todo keep applying cold water to bring the swelling down and try to keep moving the ring gently
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 thanks guys and gals will keep u updated
Lennut Tar Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 i would suggest no ibuprofen could kill it I don't think so ;) , My old mate ???????? "Mr Eyesign" (Long departed now) up in heaven :) ???????, recommended 4 or 5 ibuprofen tablets in a bucket of water. Helped them get over any pain & discomfort after a race or the day before etc. Enjoy.
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 hi the ruing now can only be spun round i cant move it up or down the leg is that swollen should i try an remove it also the leg is very bruised could it just be bad bruising or will it be broken
OLDYELLOW Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 IT SAID GIVE THE BIRD ONE IBUPROFEN , THERE WAS NO MENTION OF FIVE OR 6 IN A BUCKET OF WATER !!!!!!!!!!!!
Guest shadow Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 keep running cold water on it only remove the ring as a last resort it will take about 10 days to see any difference cutting the ring off is not easy if you do not know how as they are tough to cut

DOVEScot Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 This is how one of my young birds returned today it looks bad can any one advice as to what i should do for the best, he cant put any weight on it and its very swollen thanks In the pics it looks greenish and infected :-/

DOVEScot Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 its my camera mate its very blue and swollen It is amazing the healing powers a pigeon has, I hope it recovers fine
REDCHEQHEN Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Try some ice to get the swelling down - and Good Luck
DOVEScot Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Try some ice to get the swelling down - and Good Luck Be careful you may cause frostbite, ice is better to stop any swelling as it shrinks the blood vessels, too late for that, best to go for warm and cold alternatively as this gets the blood vessels openning and closing allowing the circulation to improve, some swelling on a damaged joint is there to protect it from further damage, bruising will go away through time, be careful you only want to dip it in warm/cold as any manipulation can cause further damage :-/
Fair Play Posted July 10, 2008 Report Posted July 10, 2008 Put a smear of vasaline inside the ring just to stop chaffing when you turn it
