Well, mine have been very lucky, as I live right on the Almondsbury interchange!  Now, I'm afraid to let them out!!

Mine are swifter and faster than any peregrine HAHA!!

Quite often see 3 peregrines circling about south of dundry in Withywood area. My birds have not been out for the last few months but I did have one taken the last time they were out. Perhaps the eagle owl living in avon gorge has chassed out the peregrines that lived there.

they seem to be all over now,, it was just a few weeks ago i posted something similar , a pair of perigrines diving and chasing hundreds of ferals [ i would assume some racers among them] in the nearby feilds to me,, these perigrines knocked about 5 to the ground , but continued "playing" with the rest of them in the air ,just chasing them, splitting them in to small batches untill all the pigeons eventually flew off , there were no birds to be seen in these feilds for a good week, i notice now a lot are back again,,strange behaviour as it didnt seem to be for hunger :-/

Have you noticed how the seagulls and even buzzards try to keep the flocks of pigeons off the buildings so that the peregrine can have a strike and when they fall they dive down and scavenge that dead bird.

a lil bit off subject but ive seen a sparrow hawk sat on the wires down the road from my lofts as soon as the buzzards spot it they chace it away maybe having a group of 8 buzzards around the fields by my lofts aint a bad thing .

I know from experience that crows will harass buzzards and sparrowhawks right across the sky here. Does anyone know if the peregrine has a similar group of birds which shadow it? Is there anything out there in nature that will put them off stalking ?

iv'e watched a few times the perigrine having a go at the sparrowhawks , once one swooped , at a sparrowhawk in the sky above asda at ibrox in glasgow at last second peel off and the sparrowhawk quickly moved away, once i was watching a sparrowhawk eating something in a field i was driving by ,i stopped  to watch and within seconds from nowhere a perigrine swooped and hit the hawk on the ground feathers were flying,it swooped again and the hawk bu@@ered off, this happened in linwood west of scotland

probably a good feed on a pigeon :) ,,,  but   a very good question i,b, ,, as far as i see it the only preditor that puts paid to the perigrine, is the eagle owl, these birds are not as dangerous as folks think, they live a very peacefull life [nesting in the same places as the perigrine, but will not tolerate any bird of prey near them, they will swoop up at roosting time and put paid to the perigrine,],,, i note the rspb dont put nest boxes out for these birds, they mainly come out at night, like all owls and feed mainly on rabbit, which are plentyfull, [they can be bought , fairly cheap from ads in the "cage and aviary, mag" off course you are not allowed to set them free, but quite a few have escaped , and will breed in the wild fairly easy, having a good food supply,, thee is some arguement as to whether these birds are native to brittain, therspb say no,, but top ornithologists say they most definately are,,, one thing for certain is,, if they are born in brittain they are brittish birds, and come under the same protection as other brittish birds ,,,or should anyway??

Jimmy, agree with what you say about the eagle owl, and yes, after sunset, will clear its territory of all other raptors. But I'm really thinking of full daylight hours, peregrines can't be airborne all the time, is there another group of birds that might harass them, signalling their presence to other birds that are in the same area?

the eagle owl will only take hawks if they nest in the same area ,or the owl gets short on food [which wont happen ] only one thing that will ever deter a raptor MAN.

There's proof that eagle owls do take out the neighbours. Would need to look it out, a chart red [owl] and green [other raptors] squares if I remember right, the research showed the green ones disappearing in time.

it was on the tv about eagle owls in belgem ,they was living on rabbits untill mixy killed most of the rabbits then the owls turnd to taking birds ,and the easy kills turnd out to be roosting buzzards at night ,plus some other hawks .so as you see it is asumed they kill hawks  most of the time because of all the hype that came after this program .

the eagle owl will most def do this ,kill any other raptor roosting near them,[i have proof of that]  but as for day light hours , i am unaware of any group of birds that may harrass them,, they are far to fast for any bird ,, even at  signalling their presence [as   most birds do] these peregrines are so quick, too quick ,even for the warning calls of other birds,, the main  danger to them is man ,,,and desease,, caught from pigeons,, canker ,,these birds are very prone to this ..[frounce, in the bird of prey world ]

Last bird caught by the peregrine was dropped when a seagull started to bomb and chase the hawk. I quite often see seaguls flying above the hawks and diving at them so chasing them off.
