strapper read the origonal post mate he kept them in for a couple of weeks till 5 days after laying this could mean between 14-19 days locked up

 

or more if the hens were a bit fat it could have been 4/5 weeks

thanks all for your help  they were locked up for 3 weeks in total

hi  i  have a prob with a few ov me stock birds the thing is i paired up a few weeks ago and i was told by a friend t lock them in their boxes for the duration till 5 days after layed their first egg i wasnt sure as i only been racing for 2 years the thing is when i let them out ov boxes i have 5 birds that cant even reach the bottom boxes as wing is lame i have read up and i know the first thing t come t mind is paratiphoid but the symptoms are not  their. droppings ok they eating ok  no lumps on wing no swelling anywhere on birds

 

i hade same problem m8 i gave sea celp tabletts & supra tab, to days and within 3-4 days they started to get back to normal

If it is the hens. I suspect that it is a calcium deficiency. Make sure that you have grit and pick stones available. Buy some calcium tablets from the local Chemist and give them a 1/4 of a tablet each. You can also buy liquid calcium. If it is this, the cure works like magic.

 

It is caused by a lack of calcium in the diet and the act of egg production further depletes the calcium available to the bird, leaving it a state of callapse. Some birds will suffer from egg binding and usually die.

 

This condition is often seen in farm animals and even women can suffer from it. It is called eclamsia. (I am not sure of the spelling)

 

Pigeons suffering from even a mild calcium deficiency are not likely to win races.

calcium (like osteocare) in the water and a pinch of curry powder with Cod liver oil in their corn  ;)
