Have just recieved an email from a friend and to pass it on - If a person called Simon Ashton (Simon25@HOTMAIL.co.uk) contacts you through email, Don't accept him, delete him as he is a hacker and if you or anyone else accepts him and they or you are on each others lists it is only a matter of time before he hacks your I.P. address

how do they do that?

speaking about Microsoft operating systems, they leave certain ports open to receive / send  traffic.

What the hackers do is use these ports to enter your computer, they port sniff your open ports to see if they can get in.

the best way is to enable updates from microsoft (patches & service pack) and to install a firewall.

2 other good products are "spybot search and destroy" & adaware, which detect trogens that you have accidently installed. these programs most likely monitor your activity and send back passwords etc.
