T_T Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Anybody been and had success with their purchases. ? It's a good crack.
richard Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 Hi Yes I went in 2004 and bought 8 youngsters, 1 of them went on to win a couple of club races as a youngster, then in 2005 he won 22nd Sect 24th Open St Malo CSCFC 4438 birds and 57th Sect 101st Open CSCFC Cholet 2659 birds. I stopped him then and I have got high hopes for him this year. Its a good weekend trip but a hell of a long time on a coach. Might go again this year with some mates, but take a car. Cheers Richard
bewted Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 hi,can anyone give me more info on this LIER market as not heard of before,,,,,,thanks bewted
T_T Posted January 19, 2006 Author Report Posted January 19, 2006 Hi Bewted, There are usually several organised Coach trips advertised in the weekly pigeon books Jan/Feb time to travel across the water to Belgium, to a place called Lier Market. It is a place where fanciers can buy themselves foreign pigeons and bring them back. I doubt whether any trips would be taking place at the moment with the threat of Avian Flu about but under normal circumstances there would be some 4/5 trips that would be going across. You would travel overnight on the Ferry and arrive at Lier Market in the very early hours of the following morning 3/4am and await the arrival of foreign fanciers ( unless they were already there ) fetching baskets of pigeons along, placing them on benches to sell under torch light because it would be so dark. The Coach usually stops on it's way back to visit a pigeon shop/factory where accessories can be bought to bring back also. You can of course make some lifelong friends in this way. All in all, a very tiring day but at the same time, enjoyable.
bewted Posted January 19, 2006 Report Posted January 19, 2006 thanks T_T,sounds real interesting and fun, but,as you say tiring,do any trips go from near bedfordshire or all down south area? any idea of cost approx,,,,bewted

swilcox Posted January 20, 2006 Report Posted January 20, 2006 Boz If you go keep your eyes wide open!!! Many of the sellers dont even race pigeons they just keep a few pairs of lookers and sell there children at the market to the German and English who dont know any better. To be honest you dont see many Belguim or Dutch people buying youngsters there which is some indication, in fact many see as a bit of a joke. A freind of mine bought a pigeon there some seasons ago and when he traced the owner he couldnt believe the man kepted 5 pairs in a garage and the other youngsters he didnt sell went to the local resturant!!!!
