Guest Posted February 18, 2009 Report Posted February 18, 2009 years ago my town had 45 members considering its a very small market town it speaks volumes for how much pigeon racing was thought of in days gone by. we now have as little as 12 members. Paul, Merthyr club in 1971 when I first got involved had 69 lofts, Merthyr valley had a population of about 57k at the time
retired Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I think both the North road clubs we belong to have around 35 members each, some are members of both and some are not. The two north road clubs are situated less than a 60 second walk away and fly in the same Fed but due to past politics etc it will never happen that they merged to form one really fantastic club. Technically there is another North road club in the town however this is currently not in use but still has 30 members- Hopefully we will get this back in use at the AGM next month even if it is just used for midweek racing again.
Ian McKay Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 Sunnybank R P C in Aberdeen been growing every year for the last four years. We now have 31 members the biggest club in Aberdeen the officials must be doing something right. Ian

sammy Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I think Coatbridge may have been the biggest club in Scotland many moons ago? coatbridge premier way back early 60s had 128 lofts ,club now defunct ,sad
hotrod Posted February 19, 2009 Report Posted February 19, 2009 I think our membership is 47 at the moment around 30 send regular and about half the membership have won one or more nationals/classics or combines. Leigh club must be one of the strongest clubs in the country a club that has won 6x1st, 7x2nd,6X3rd,7X4th,6X5th,6X6th,2x7th,5X8th 1X9th 5X10th +39 other cards between 11th & 20th in 2 seasons in the NFC & BICC. . great strong club john ,even if it were half what you say it would still be a strong club.

mark croker Posted February 21, 2009 Report Posted February 21, 2009 i think we would all agree that not matter how many members we have, big or small, we still need to do more to get people into the sport

me Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 coatbridge premier way back early 60s had 128 lofts ,club now defunct ,sad I am sure you were unlucky and inherited an utter brammer for a secretary who knackered the club and it ended up being closed down and the the proceeds of the club being split up and the members of a perfectly good club being cast to the four winds looking for a club to fly their doos in.
PATTY BHOY Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 what is the answer to get more people interested in the sport.
