THE FIFER Posted March 10, 2009 Report Posted March 10, 2009 was a normal thing back in the 50s to see woodpigeons hanging in the butchers shops, fully feathered, I have a few around my garden and park outside my house,

Guest Owen Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 I think we should have a collection for the poor devil. If he is so down on his luck that he has to eat pigeons, he must be starving. A couple of bob so that he can go to the Supermarket might help. If it's not that, then we should give him a good hammering and sling him in jail.
Guest Freebird Posted March 11, 2009 Report Posted March 11, 2009 Wild wood pigeon is one of the best tasting meats you can get, far superior to pheasant and a lot harder to shoot. Then again I suppose it depends how it is cooked but I've had it from a shooting pal of mine and it was delirious and better for you than some of the junk in the supermarkets, no antibiotics or whatever else they pump into beef, pork and chicken. Don't bother plucking them just cut through skin in centre of breast, peel away and cut out the breast. Remember if it wasn’t for our ancestor’s love of eating pigeon you would probably not have yer racing doos today as the rock dove was first domesticated for their meat. I always get a smile on my face when I here people talk of binning birds, what a waste.
