Guest Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I do believe censorship may well be justified on occasion, but there does seem to be a worrying trend occurring on this site.Intelligent debate can only be beneficial to an open forum, but with the amount of locked topics at present on basics.com are we in danger of becoming a closed shop. Surely the abusive posts should be removed and topics remain open. But in the case of serial abusive members, surely they should be removed from the site rather than locking so many threads.

Guest Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 because so far every one who has asked about the very same subject has had the thread removed Well i cannot see the justification in removing this one ,as long as everyone behaves themselves. And sensible debate takes place within the giving boundaries.

Guest Posted March 18, 2009 Report Posted March 18, 2009 I for one have came to the conclusion that it is the ignorant morons on this site, that stifle debate.Should they as individuals not be removed, rather than the majority of decent members be sanctioned.

Guest chrisss Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 well no they are all valid points, there is to much pulling off[threads] by some mods on here,[to be checked out],and what amazes me is that they never appear again,if guys are swearing at each other or there is a legal aspect, than thats a fair one,but sometimes you get the impression that the thread is pulled because its not towing the party line, or the "duty mod"might not like the guy posting, and for the "wolfpack" out there spare me the party line about leaving if i do not like it, i like this site, and have as much right to post as you have
Roland Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Fine... as long as the debate doesn't become obnoxious and boring in trying to force an answer that is A. Irrelevant and B. nothing to do with the site members, let alone of an interest!. If the code of ethics is applied in the spirit it is intended, then of course members would know -even if they so choose to ignore - when the line as been drawn. And really, badgering, imploring when 2cent of sense, and common decency tells them otherwise, is the cancer of a site. Not the debates, heated or otherwise, as these only further embellish the site. I feel the adage of ‘ It is fine to disagree, but not to be disagreeable'. And two many try to enforce unworthy and futile 'Causes' when just 1cent of an IQ tells everyone else that it is a no hoper. Indeed they should first off explain why they wish to 'Dogmatic' even if folly wise they come across as stupid. Like this post, if interested, fine, speak up and debate... if not, or aren't interested, look in and just leave.

Roland Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 A lot of debate for the Deals to be done though.
grizzle_hen Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 Debate is always a tricky issue here, say the ETS debate or the recent SHU vs. RPRA thread, we would let these debates go on without locking topics, if people could keep it on topic and not let it get out of hand, with the usual slagging matches that ensue. Also members have to realise that we all have different opinions, whether you believe they are right or wrong, but we have to accept this and not result to abuse or a slagging match of "you so and so, you know nothing you ***********". And its true that some members will spoil it for others, which is a shame. However, sometimes you get one member being abusive on a thread, and its completely out of their character (I can think of one recently) which is sometimes due to drink, now we can't outright ban them, because looking through their posts this type of behaviour has never been seen, more we need to find out why this happened, fair enough if they had a crap day and decided to take it out on the forum. My point here, is that you don't see any of the behind the scenes work that we do we there is an out-of-hand thread or an abusive reply, we need to pm members to try and understand what has happened and to see if we can stop it from happening again. We need to go through the Code of Conduct, find the relevant parts and highlights these to the member, and normally we'll get an apology and explanation, like 'I had a really bad day at work, saw something on the forum that I didn't like and reacted badly, and just typed without thinking'. Chriss, if you get the feeling that a thread has been pulled, without explanation, because it's not towing the party line as you say, then pm Richard, the fifer, or myself and say why you think its been wrongly pulled, then hopefully we'll be able to find out why and give you an explanation. And anyway, I don't want to see locked threads everywhere on the forum, and I'm sure all you don't want the same
Fair Play Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 On an open forum there is NO excuse for ignorance or bad manners - "bad day at the office" does not go down very well.
grizzle_hen Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 On an open forum there is NO excuse for ignorance or bad manners - "bad day at the office" does not go down very well. The thing is, everyone has a bad day, its just how we deal with it, and its does happen where members will mouth off, uncharacteristically
grizzle_hen Posted March 19, 2009 Report Posted March 19, 2009 And I'm not making excused for people, I just want members to understand that we have to deal with things like that and work out what to do.
