chickadee Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 i want to breed some tumblers but is it getting too cold now? No It's not too cold for them to breed now, they will be kept very warm by their parents.
DOVEScot Posted October 4, 2008 Report Posted October 4, 2008 No It's not too cold for them to breed now, they will be kept very warm by their parents. Yes our cote birds breed all year round and most survive all the elements as they have done for thousands of years Although they do slow down the process and it is good to give your birds a rest

jimmy white Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 i want to breed some tumblers but is it getting too cold now? no , never too cold to breed,, but parents must be in breeding condition
jimmy white Posted October 6, 2008 Report Posted October 6, 2008 i not had any yet they keep mating for the last 2 weeks but no eggs? they could still lay if in the right condition,, this time of year ,,they usually take longer to lay wheatgerm oil, nest pans , some straw or nesting material , plenty grit and a little hemp [light would help],,,,,,,,,but not really the best time ,,
Merlin Posted October 7, 2008 Report Posted October 7, 2008 Nature decrees that everything has its season,,the question is why would you want to breed so late/early parents will be under undue pressure, rearing and feeding youngsters when this sustenance should be for themselves growing new feathers etc, recharging their batteries for what Nature says is new breeding season, offspring are developing in cold winter months, little sunlight, short daylight hours, beginning moult, and double moulting flights next season, would never do it myself, without a very good reason,Nature is like swings and roundabouts, what you gain on one ,you might lose on the other,if you wish to go ahead, all the best,it can be done.
