i have an old hen thats sitting to lay for 2 days now but wont lay ive tried vaseline u name it, slipped an egg to entice her to lay (she has an egg at the vent i can feel it) by the way she's 17 yrs old .she's not laid for two years now.ANY IDEAS?

Had a similar thing a couple of years ago. Nature ended up taking its course and the old hen layed an egg that was 1 1/2 times normal size and looked like 2 eggs joined together.

ive had it before once or twice, but this hen is 17 years old .ive never known a hen that has laid at anywhere near this age.

My old hen was 14 years old when this happened and she went on to lay another 2 nests that year. But your right 17 is a good age for a old hen laying.

Id try slipping her an egg and then a second two days later her cock should take them as he has been waiting patiently, let them sit them until they jump them and she might just go into the cycle and lay out the second time round. ive done this this year already but my hen is only 10 years old, just a chick compared to your old campainer. good luck.

she laid two years ago and it was a wee small egg (just one) but she has nevr been paired up really for four or five years , but im short of hens this year so let her go with an old cock to keep him happy.
