Tilbrook28 Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 Hello all I wonder if somebody may be able to offer some advice and or help? Having been out of the fancy for 11 years I am keen to re-join as quickly as possible. I have been to my local pigeon club (Wetherby HS) and met some members and have even starting thinking about strains and loft design etc. To date however I have been unable to find any land to put my pigeon loft on. My garden is too small, the council will not allow a pigeon loft on the local allotments and farmers don't seem to want to let me have any land. I live in a West Yorkshire village near Wetherby. If any one has any ideas, or has encountered similar problems then please help. Thanks

Guest Owen Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 I agree with fletchlives. You don't need a very big set up. Patrick Brother raced 10 cocks for years and were brilliant at all levels. A friend of mine won the averages with 5 cocks flying from a small shed cum loft. It is the quality of the birds and your skill that will really matter in the end. Have you seen the Small Starter Loft that was shown on here a few weeks ago. Someone will know how to set it up on this forum for you to look at. Keith Mott was in a mess with pigeon lung. He solved the problem by designing small Rabbit Hutch type accomadation for his birds and was able to carry on. You could contact him through the Homing World. He is a nice guy and I am sure he will help you. In addition to what I have said, Old Yellow is right. There must be plenty of fanciers arround who would love to have a good partner. Perhaps it is not ideal, but it will get you started and you may be able to branch out on your own later.
Guest Grasshopper Lofts Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 try your local churches some time they have land and will welcome someone on it to keep it in order, worth a shot
Beanz Posted March 29, 2009 Report Posted March 29, 2009 Its a sign of the times, no-one wants livestock on their land, our council will let you keep pigeons in a council house back yard with restrictions but you can't keep them on council allotments, they are for gardening only. Paul
Guest Owen Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 I am very politically active in this area. All the Councillors know me well. And I think it would be right to say that some of them think I am a pain in the ar--. I am currently active about the way they build houses. I think that all new house should have solar panels, goe-thermal heating and alotments for every twenty houses. And also meeting facilities available for the community. Modern houses are now built on a high density basis, which is OK but if they want to maximise space like that they must provide basic facilities that satisfy the way that people want to live. Come on folks, get active, get at them. Shame them into doing this properly, regardless of whether it is vandalism or the way they treat us. People are not all the same and some of us actually need to have access to livestock and the earth. Besides it enhances community spirit and creates an envirenment were by the elderly, the young, male and female can co-exist. I am sure that even race relations can benefit from this sort of community mixing. Get angry, do not put up with the sh-- that the politicians are trying to dish out. We need and deserve more. Much more.
Guest Posted March 30, 2009 Report Posted March 30, 2009 Can't help you out but wish you the best of luck and hope you get something sorted out.
