HELP NEEDED ---CAT TROUBLE

I know many members have the best solution to erradicate this problem but dont want to broadcast their views on an open forum. However I do have a problem and would appreciate any offers of a solution . PM me if you feel more comfortable.

get your own cat and train it not to touch your birds as you would a dog  itll keep other cat out of you space I did this years ago it works

get a scarecrow water jet, they work, cats only get hit once and they know not to come back 2 of by next dor neighbours have 2 cats each the other 1, 5 cats next to me but they dont come in my back garden, although i havent had my water jet up for a while i must rig it up again just in case, i used to set it at night and you could always tell if it had been set off the back yard was vet wet, and they are legal. no use trying any harm as you will only get into trouble and after all they are someones pets, dont like them myself wouldnt have one in the house, but we have pigeons some dont like but would we like them to harm our birds,

we lost 4 birds some years ago to a cat .it would not give a s*** if you were their strait up side of loft grab bird then it was off up the gardens. till one day the one at the front seen it and told it to stop.it did.

You can legally trap a cat in your garden as long as its not subject to cruelty (or death), and is released.

daughter wanted a dog for years, eventually gavei n and got her a dachshund, ended up with 2 now and they both hate cats , never had one in the garden since we got them and they're both lovely family dogs

people are as much entitled to keep their cat,, as any fancier is keeping their  pigeons,, but by using your head,  and not  advising illegal means on the forum,,, will take any heat from fanciers, who may just get the blame, for nothing   ,  p,m,s  can  a big help..in advising

i have 3 cat all of which dont bother pigeons . all cats fight any other cat that comes near the loft or surrounding area. one even sits on loft roof when birds in bath not 6 feet away .next time she does it will try photo

I once installed a cat scarer to solve this problem. My elderly neighbours have numerous cats.. six or so, which generally dont bother coming near the pigeons. However some time ago one young male cat took a fancy to the doos and to our house to the extent that I once discovered him in our kitchen. It must've sensed my mood because it went totally apeshit, running up the curtains and belting round the room causing mayhem. The fact that I was in hot pursuit probably didnt help the situation. Eventually it found a way out through a window - which probably saved its life... at that time.

 

My neighbours are a lovely elderly couple who I would not wish to hurt in any way, so diplomacy ruled, I had a meeting with them and it was decided to go half shares on a cat scarer. This was duly installed at the corner of the shed and I waited to see if the gadget worked. Well work it did, when the offending animal drew level with the scarer he shot feet in the air and made a dive for the bushes and stayed well clear from then on, so they do work.

 

There are numerous other stories involving fairly desperate measures which I wont go into. The postscript to this story is that the cat was eventually run over by a car several weeks later and the cat scarer was destroyed by rain getting into the gubbings.

 

Random relocation or total immersion in salt water are probably not the best way to go with this problem.

A fellow fancier once confessed to me that he had taken fairly drastic action regarding a cat problem which had eaten one of his prized pigeons: He came home one day to discover a cat in the loft. Now the problem was that their own cat looked very similar to the neighbour's cat.. almost indistinguishable in fact. Our man thought he had caught the neighbour's cat and in the heat of the moment promptly dispatched it to 'sea trials' 20 odd miles away. He arrived home later to find the cat - or at least its identical self sitting outside the shed.   It transpired he had inadvertently 'got rid of' their own cat rather than the neighbour's. Of course his young daughters wondered what had happened to their pet cat which was 'missing' .. our man never confessed to what happened and had to live with his conscience thereafter... although he admits there were strong suspicions from his missus.

I have taken on board advise from loads of you and the overwhelming maJority all guide me to do the same thing! So as from tonight the neighbours cat will be welcome to visit my garden and eat as much Tuna as it likes. I popped out earlier today and bought a few tins on the way to the Auto shop for some much needed Anti freeze.
