lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 i could try that, it is quite high and im not good with heights but ill give anything a go me.
Merlin Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Get yourself a "dropper" bird that's unable to fly, use it to get them down leave him in and out loft, birds are flock creatures, something has spooked them, and it needs only one to make the first move to drop in.
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 then eaither cats been in loft or as someoone stated stoat cos they obviously had scare in loft if they come to top of it i suppose you will have to persivere as you live in a town yea i know its city could you have fox coming round at night under shed
lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 if i was there for 5 hours and never saw anything then suerly they would have made a move then? i dont have any birds left, there all on the roof! its so frustrating! never had as big a problem with birds as this.
sammy Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 leave them alone untill they are hungry then they will come in leave the loft open so they can go in and when they are ready they will go in ,in meantime you consentrate on finding out what has scared them and more likely to be cats at night when yir not there sit and watch and you will see what it is cause it will come back ;)had this problem years ago until a got a good hungry dog no prob now ;D ;D
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 its not what you see its what they see or have had to scare them
lawrie Posted November 30, 2008 Author Report Posted November 30, 2008 i have a dog, but i thought that would make them worse?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 well my jacks have no effect on birds when im here but turn my back bye bye
Guest shadow Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 they could have been spooked by a hawk scattering them if the section is empty try putting a couple of old birds in so the youngsters can see them
Guest spin cycle Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 hoe old are they and is it their first time out ? whatever....its 12 pigeons ..not worth climbing on the roof and breaking your neck..particularly if your not good at heights JMO. i've had them sit out for a week ( not this time of year though ). could be they are a little strong..went out well fed...and are a little nervous. keep the others flying out and try not to worry
chickadee Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Last time our birds were spooked by a cat, a lot of them sat on the garage roof all night, then gradually over a few days they all started to come in a couple at a time till eventually they were all back in. It's so frustrating.
DOVEScot Posted November 30, 2008 Report Posted November 30, 2008 Last time our birds were spooked by a cat, a lot of them sat on the garage roof all night, then gradually over a few days they all started to come in a couple at a time till eventually they were all back in. grizzal Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 get yourself acat trap ,catch it and take it for WALK ;D ;D ;D
Guest IB Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Bit late, if you cannot see the loft roof so that anything could hide up there out of your view , might be an idea to put some brightly coloured rubber snakes up there. These are said to deter cats. I would imagine your missing birds will still be local. Give the birds in the loft a couple of days to get over their fright, then try them out after first light. They should bring the others down.
lawrie Posted December 3, 2008 Author Report Posted December 3, 2008 i can see onto the roof, it must have been hiding in another garden. i will let them out on friday morning
Peckedhen Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Do you have any other birds than the ones you just got in? If so, let them out. Personally, I'd keep the ones that stayed out, in for a couple of weeks.
lawrie Posted December 3, 2008 Author Report Posted December 3, 2008 there the only birds i have. 2 weeks, if thats what it takes then thats what i'll do! will they be ok to go in the aviery?
ChrisMaidment08 Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 put loverly tin cat food on dish on top of loft with nice drink for after they like drink to be very sweet it helps to relax them cats that is ;) ;)
