hi guys,

i found out a mate of mine has heaps of large white pigeons freeflying around his farm,

i think thay are kings ? ,  he said if i help catch them i can have a couple of pairs ,

how do you catch them ? and then sex them ?

do the males dance arond and chace the girls like racing pigeons do ?

also sorry for all the questions, but are racing pigeons sutabile for freeflying pets ? ,  please dont laugh at my novice questions,

as i like both king and racing pigeons ,  but i only want around 2 pairs to fly around the backyard, would the local racing guys laugh at me if i ask them for a couple of pairs  :B

regards jase

i would be suprised if they are kings free flying!

Either catch them when it dark from there roost as said or build a trap where you can feed them into.

Just remember though these birds will probably be hard to settle at your loft and you maybe better getting some youngbirds that you can keep tame and settle easily!

Was asked years ago by the local vicar if a couple of us could get rid of the pigeons in the church bell tower, had a look up through the day got a rough idea what was what.Out of the pub about 11ish harmed with a flashlight, net and a bag, back in the pub by 1/2past not a bird.It was pitch dark and the birds went through the slots in the wall like rockets.Bad idea!!!

Don't think it sensible to go thrashing around in the dark on a ladder. Any flashlight will just act the same way as 'borrowed light' making it light enough for the bird to see, and make its escape.
