Guest kevin b Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 wouldnt be a bad idea to send one of the members down just to have a look and check out if the youngster is genuine and if he or she is in a position to look after the birds. ie. are the parents willing to let them keep the birds, can they legelly keep them in the area, estate their in ect..... Also if they are rank novices it will give them a name and a face to contact should they get into trouble with sickness ect... Kevin.
Roland Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 Personally I think I would auction of and help the POB (For those that don't know P.O.B. stands for Protect our Birds) to raise some much needed cash for our cause. JMO Feel we have saturated every good avenue of 'Good causes' and perhap it is now the time to help our members. Of course J, I'm not implying that you haven't and are not fore front in this compaign. With you whatever you decide.

Good idea Kev, I'm just for donating the birds and will no doubt do so in the future, I know for certain that two of the people who are getting the birds are genuine but I do get your point. Roland you have a good idea there mate but a little late on this one as the birds are promised now. Food for thought at a later date though.
Guest Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 You can never know anyone's true position. I've given 28 yb this year to site members I probably have personal knowledge of a quarter of them. At one stage I thought to check with 'claimed' new starters 'named' club to see if they were genuine, then I thought if they are struggling and need/want my birds just give them, maybe they could have gone to brand new starters but let's be honest there are experienced fanciers who struggle today too. So I would say let your gut decide or first come, either way, well done; we all should be looking to help each other when we can. (Can I also say I have some cracking YB gifted from pj1001 and Asha and would like to thank them for their genorosity.)
gd Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 having bought from so called 'respected pigeon men' and had a bad experience in the past - I would like to thank the original poster on his willingness to help new starters , the sport needs people like you to get the new fanciers off to a good start and I applaud you for your actions. I would also like to thank BLACK WF who is going to gift me a pair of distance birds in the future - this after reading of the problems after buying from a member here. and DAVID another member who is gifting me a pair of gabbys to try out. Also JACKSAFC who has provided me with a kit of 6 y/b at minimal cost to try out and last but not least chichichi - who has provided me the opportunity to enter one of his competitions on another forum and I was lucky enough to win a pair of y/b to try out. As we can see from these actions - there are plenty of people to help new fanciers out and once I am established I will be gifting birds on a regular basis to new and especially young fanciers. I reckon it will be the only way to stop the sport dying out all together so it'll be for everyones benefit cheers lads
Guest shadow Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 ;Dif these birds are coming from where i think. then i am a new starter i am younger than kieran. i sometime feed my birds dried bananas.as i was told to do this from a person on hear he has still has not gave me any more little tips. i am not at school to day as i caught the measles from on of my birds. this is the truth. ;D pigeons are corn eaters never heard of feeding bananas they are a fruit would not recommend if you want to race your birds
blaz Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 pigeons are corn eaters never heard of feeding bananas they are a fruit would not recommend if you want to race your birds we each have our own idea of what birds get to eat .the late dale newcombe fed his birds chocolate /peanuts and chocolate biscuits. i am not the only one to use dried bananas the potassium helps when birds get further out . in my opinion

Wise words again Allbear, getting to be a bit of a fan of yours, this is why I asked for some more experienced minds than mine to guide me which I've done. I'm pretty sure that the ones that have been chosen are more than worthy and those who kindly offered to stand aside to let the youngsters have a chance are to be respected.
chickadee Posted June 4, 2009 Report Posted June 4, 2009 pigeons are corn eaters never heard of feeding bananas they are a fruit would not recommend if you want to race your birds Mine love elder berries, lettuce and broccolli amonst other things so not just corn eathers, although I have never tried bananas dried or otherwise :-/ I may ask this on a seperate post
Guest strapper Posted June 5, 2009 Report Posted June 5, 2009 peanuts are not corn but can anyone say that pigeons dont love them?
