We can get 20 + emails and phone calls a week during the racing season regarding lost racing pigeons, with the odd roller etc thrown in.  We are always polite and do our best to help fanciers and non fanciers alike reunite a lost pigeon with its owner.

This evening while trying find a telephone number for a club secretary I phoned a couple of other secretary's from the same Fed who were less than the ideal front for our hobby.  One made a comment about women and pigeons and hung up, another used some choice words and told me to p!** off and hung up, the third after lecturing me about what did I think the SHU was for finally gave me a contact number.  Thanks to him the pigeon is now on it's way back to it's own loft.  :)

I know it can get to be a bit of a scunner when the 7th 8th or 10th person has phoned that day gushing about how they have saved this beautiful but poor racing pigeon from the neighbours cat, if they happen to call you please remember they don't know they are not always the 1st.

Why can't people just be polite and say sorry they can't help.  If I had been a nonfancier I would have certainly had 2nd thoughts about contacting anyone in pigeons again.

quite right bigda, I hate it when non fanciers ring me and are afraid that the fancier will and I quote 'ring it's neck' when it gets back home, I can only assure them that they wont and are glad to have their bird back

abbey ,you should name and shame ,might at least make them think twice about being so rude next time .                 andy.

Spot on Abbey, also how many sec's have told the RPRA etc not to contact them if a non fancier gets a bird in thats local to them?

Answer:- A lot!

It is very much Frowned upon via the RPRA... well they need to look the part eh! And action is taken against any fancier discurteous to the Public. Likewise I think a little ettiquette and decorum would go a miss with these two  / three clowns. Was their names bates by any chance?  :-/ Kids, Master Bate eh!

its a pity he hung up after his comment about women and pigeons . as all 3 were female before being male .all three would not be hear if it was not for woman.

Courtesy costs nothing

Yeah, and likewise with fanciers who have their birds returned to them!  I've kept a racer for a week and fed it up, I then arranged for a friend to take it 50 miles away from here and towards its loft. I contacted the owner, told him I was releasing it that day and asked him to let me know when it returned safely.......not a word ...not even a call to say it didnt return! GRRR :X

Abbey, this behaviour appals me. Name the three people you phoned, this sort of attitude cannot be condoned, it is disgraceful. Please name them you will get the full backing of everyone on here.

I've taken birds nearly to their home loft, many times, and some are most grateful.

One bird from Radstock I took to Frome twice. The fancier concerned started losing his hair saying I'd been training it. The bird returned here again for the third time and funnily enough I'd lost his details.

Some are a pleasure to deal with, but many are not.

I will always do my best to help but why are some so bl**dy rude.

Tiz such a shame when you try to help, and then find the people you're helping, are so ignorant.

my last idiot was on here and after discussion.s of very rude nature from him resulted in he wont do it to anyone again ???be nice to peaple that report youer birds it costs nothing but goe.s a long way

i cant understand some of the attitudes afterall you are doing them the good turn??..........id go out of my way 2 help anyone even if i might not like them does not mean i would not help if possible.....

Id just like to have a bird reported full stop! Would be over the moon to be honest. My own personal experience of reporting birds is usually met with "chuck it up" with old 'uns even if they have been told they are flown out which no way will a couple of days corn put right for perhaps hundereds of miles flying to get home in some cases and "would you like to keep it and try it" with YB's? Answer No! got my own thanks!!  just thought I was doing you a favour!!! so as mentioned above, 60% at least, of the fancy needs a good kick up the backside as its due to them we all have a bad name! You can't appologise for other peoples doings and those that do it never will

I put it down to pig ignorance, bad manners and a total lack of respect for everybody and everything. That is why they should be named and shamed, but that said, even that wouldn't bother some.
