Guest milkyal Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 cant see any birds being time in until nearly six o'clock so wont be on site till nearly 7. The birds would have been looked after 100%, but there will be many empty perches tonight, the heat will get them. 520 miles down here in Wisbech and i cant see a bird getting here till around 8-30pm hope im wrong. Good Luck all.

Guest milkyal Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Think you will be nearer 9pm Milkyal as cant see anything around here until at least 8pm Reckon theres North in the wind now, but just had a £20 bet that no more than 3 birds get into Wisbech. Cheated a little as couple members dont live in town lmao

Cheated a little as couple members dont live in town lmao I see the North in the wind - I popped to Dick Brockelsby's for a few drinks and he is the man to beat around here from Lerwick. The way Carl has been flying though this season wouldnt bet against him for the race.
Mr Yorkie Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Having raced from Lerwick the weekend before last I wholeheartedly wish these little birdies all the best of luck. Although the South roaders may fly further the North Sea is far more a daunting task than the English Channel. Good luck to one and all. It's fine and sunny now in North Yorkshire although didn't get out until about 3pm so I hope the weather won't defeat them.
No 1 Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 Walton Bros have a canny one doing 1175ypm, oneor two coming through now.

Guest paulrstokes Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Gutted, not seen a feather, and was really hopefull of my entries. Still on we go, still time to get one. A very well done to all that have timed, this heat has made this a real test. Good Luck
Guest Hjaltland Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Well done to Walton Bros and also to Mr Mrs Skinner on 2 exceptional birds. Sheer class in a really taxing race Stating the obvious here but the birds which do make it through in these sort of conditions must be pretty special. Well done to those select few who have selected the right birds for the job and well done to these special birds who have shown they have the brains and physique to to do the job.
pigeonpete Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 Anyone know of the furthest flyer that got 1? amazing birds well done to all who got them, and the others have still got time yet, keep your chins up.

Guest paulrstokes Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 well done mate, thats great flying on that route 527 miles. :-) what condition was it in? hope you get some more today. I will be honest, he was in very good nick, still plenty of bodyweight and very perky, As a five year old that has been before he probably assesed the conditions and thought lets play this steady :)
PIGEON_MAN Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I would say 491 as the crow flies Pete from Crewe to Lerwick Used to be a member about 30 years ago belonged then to section "G" my distance was about 560 to Great Malvern,I used to take the birds across to Grantham for basketing, won the section 3 years on the trot from Perth.
Guest milkyal Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 I believe Stewart McCurry (wisbech) had the furthest on the day 519 miles clocked at 9-50. My mistake G&V Britton of Newborough Nr Peterbor fly 523 miles
Guest spin cycle Posted June 30, 2009 Report Posted June 30, 2009 well done to all that clocked...or even sent. hopefully i can take part next year
Guest paulrstokes Posted July 1, 2009 Report Posted July 1, 2009 Hi all. Thanks for your comments. As mentioned I sent 9, clocked 3 yesterday 11.50, 16.59, and 18.28. Got 2 more this morning, so I suppose 5, from 9 is not bad, especially taking into account the heat they have encountered. Roll on Thurso!!!
