kirky Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 But is that even with the early birds mine r now 6-7 weeks old ybs that are weaned and going out now should be on darkness now as thay will start the moult and cast the first flight before the end of the month.
thomasd Posted March 12, 2009 Author Report Posted March 12, 2009 so best getting them on now some of the yb's r moulting now but not thier flight just round thier faces small feathers will start them on monday that sould be ok yea
mark proctor Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 ybs that are weaned and going out now should be on darkness now as thay will start the moult and cast the first flight before the end of the month. kirky ive been useing the darky for 11 years now,,,i was the first one on it in my club...my young birds never ever shoot a flight until the 3rd week in august...and thats going on it on the 20th march...till the 22nd june....
PIGEON_MAN Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Surely if you leave young birds a few weeks after they have been weaned they are going to start moulting their flights before you get them onto the dark system,I have allways put mine straight on the system the day they are weaned with no problems, infact i,m sometimes struggling at the end to get them through the moult, perhaps thats where I,m going wrong.
phillips Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 early weaned ybs are naturally on the darkness hous so i cant see them chucking flight anyway my first team are body moulting now and ive spoke to a wing specialist about this and hes advised me that i should put them on the dark between 20 and 29th march to be shore that they dont chuck any flights before 3rd wk in august

phillips Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 Hope you dont mind me asking Jason but didnt you have trouble with your darkness youngones last year throwing flights early was that doing it the same way. i did the light system last yr mate thats why it all went horrible wrong they had chucked their flights and come the first race they was all pushing 9th and 10th primary flights which stopped me from entering into the first races i hadnt worked out the lights propley when i weaned them i should have put them on lights then but i didnt so for the first few wks of weaning they was on natrual darkness hrs which was the cause of them not chucking the lot on time for the first races i tried it and failed so im doing what i now and that will be darkness this yr and all the ybs will be going over the water cheers jason
kirky Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 kirky ive been useing the darky for 11 years now,,,i was the first one on it in my club...my young birds never ever shoot a flight until the 3rd week in august...and thats going on it on the 20th march...till the 22nd june.... i first used darkness 1986 and over the years i have tried all different start dates and to me i have found best to put them on when weaned winning or ru up yb ave most years, but you have not said how old your ybs are now.
phillips Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 my first team of youngsters are end jan weaned and are body moulting now even if the ybs was to chuck a flight now i would not be bothered as it would be the only one they chuck cos as soon as you fool them by putting them on the dark they wll stop throwing their flights and straight away go into a body moult fanciers around derby put their ybs on the darkness system for six wks and they still manage to race the whole programme with their ybs
mark proctor Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 i first used darkness 1986 and over the years i have tried all different start dates and to me i have found best to put them on when weaned winning or ru up yb ave most years, but you have not said how old your ybs are now. paired up on the 1st jan so there about 6 weeks old m8...

kirky Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 paired up on the 1st jan so there about 6 weeks old m8... well yours should be fine mate, but ybs weaned in jan wont be.
phillips Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 well fingers crossed this doesnt happen there are no ybs chucked any flight yet and they are not pushing so i should be ok
mark proctor Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 well yours should be fine mate, but ybs weaned in jan wont be. ok m8...never bred that early so i wont realy no...cheers...
phillips Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 so have you tried it with jan weaned ybs ? if so what happened ?
kirky Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 so have you tried it with jan weaned ybs ? if so what happened ? thay will throw flights and it is not good for the birds to stop and start moult once thay have thrown a flight you might as well let them carry on, the idea of darkness is to stop them throwing flights and just go throw body moult.
phillips Posted March 12, 2009 Report Posted March 12, 2009 ill put them on dark tommoz then as they havent chucked yet
