Guest Owen Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 How do you get on with reds and mealies? I have a red Marcel Sanger cock that gives me the occasional Mealy. I never get to keep them. BOP I think. Last years won a race and was carded a couple of times but went the same way as it's relations. I bought in 7 young Lambrechts this year, one of them was a mealy. A lovely youngster. I had a group of 15 flying their wings off. 2 and 3 hours at a time. Yes, you've guessed it, the Mealy disappeared. If I get a red or a mealy in the future I think I will move them on to someone who has a better chance of keeping them than I have.

Novice Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 My best stock hen was a red. I could never keep the reds from her but I mated them with dark birds and normally scored with the chequer youngsters. I had formed the opinion they may be the preference of BOP but have no proof.
greenlands Posted July 14, 2009 Report Posted July 14, 2009 Hi Oen ,I've the same problem with Mealy pieds.A few years ago I bought some cracking Van Reets, one pair in particular bred mealies, mealy pieds ,blue pieds and blues, every mealy pied i've lost off the loft, mealies, blue pieds score just for the hell of it and the blues come home ????????? Lindsay. PS.This is the first season i've had any reds and red pieds,so far so good.
