Hi guys!!

My plans with the widowers has gone a bit ..........I have just weaned my last of the 1st round y/b of the widowers. As most of you my first race will be on the 11Th of April. If i put the hens back now as i have done today,I'm gone have to wait 7-10 days for eggs to appear.Another 7 days to take the eggs away. That's 17 days from today, leaving me with only 10 days to get my yearlings in shape and use to the system. Is that enough time and how do i go about training?

not if you late them out to pair up that will get them a bit sharper for the training  and they will only need 5 or 6 tosses

andrecrock, you can send to the first race paired up and when the cocks return

then you can put them on w/hood , it might take some of them 2 or 3 races to

get the hang of the system .

Why put the hens back anyway, personally I take the youngsters and hens away at the same time, leave the hens in with the youngsters to carry on feeding them just to make sure they are o.k.and leave the cocks on their own from now on,the next time I would let the cocks see the hens would be when they return from their first training toss, dont be to impatient though to start training if they are all yearlings as its a long season and if you push them to soon they will be no good later on,what distance did you think of sending them to in their first year.

i dont think your plans with the widowers has gone at all, in fact with your cards played right could well  be very successfull, ,, must you send your birds to this first race , even indeed the second race?  if i were you i would forget about these first races and concentrate on the biger later races ,,,most of your members birds , if trained for a fortnight, then sent to your first race, at this time of the year, will never have birds on top form when it counts ,, my advice would be ,have patience , get them out each day for a fly, then train them at the end of april,, and race them, you will find when most  birds/members have fell by the way side , your birds will be in top form,, best of luck :)

It's best not to repair. You want your cocks to be on a good wing so don't spoil it by repairing. Concentrate on getting the birds into their best form and leave the hens alone. They do not need to see the hens until they get back from their first race. Cocks are ruined by showing them too much hen. Make sure that your hens do not pair up because that would be a disaster. Treat em mean and keep em keen. Box them from Tuesday on the week of the first race. Try it. It works.
