chrisbonnie Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 do they work? a sneaky little cat got too close to the pigeons for comfort today, i was sitting down in the garden, but the little sneak was on top of the shed, only i stood up, i wouldnt have seen him until it was too late, so i think a repeller is the answer, providing they work of course anybody have any advice on these? cheers lads

pjc Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 the fixed ones work for some cats but not all, the hand helds are no good, by the time you point it at a cat the cats seen you and run any way!
chrisbonnie Posted May 3, 2009 Author Report Posted May 3, 2009 ive a pretty small back garden,. i was thinking of getting 2 of them, on each end of the loft, waste of money, or worth a punt?
retired Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Had two a few years back and was convinced they didnt work - However a friend has been raving about the one he has so plan to try one in the coming weeks. I will let you know the make when i do.
pjc Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I had one for a few years and wasn't convinced it worked, jack R was better but when I moved in with the ex she had 2 cats. Me being such a cat lover i plugged the ultrasonic in on the landing to stop the cats coming upstairs, one cat would dissapear until it was turned off and the other would curl up and go to sleep by it!
Guest Owen Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 I am sure that they work when you first switch them on. But eventually the cats get the hang of it and will ignore it in favour of getting at your pigeons. The best deterant is an electric fence. It is quiet, never sleeps and totally reliable. And best of all, no-one need know that you have one. I have used one for years without the slightest need for me to worry about cats, dogs or foxes. At one time I used a battery operated unit which meant that I had to keep an eye on the level of charge in the battery. These days I have a mains unit. I just have to occasionally make sure that it is not fouled by herbage, and that's it. Once an animal gets to know what it is, they will know the sound and keep well away.
Roland Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 Not if the cats are deaf, or real determine.... be better of pay £50 for an electric fence I reckon.
gooner Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 the best cat deterant is one of your own i used to have a cat and he used to sun bath on top of the loft with the birds walking round him, i had trained him from a kitten not to toucgh the birds

Guest numpty01 Posted May 3, 2009 Report Posted May 3, 2009 if you get fence get the viper its best and gives one hell wollop
chrisbonnie Posted May 4, 2009 Author Report Posted May 4, 2009 i got a sonic one in B&Q earlier, ill see how it does, and keep you informed, but i reckon in the long run, an electric fence is the best option
