I am flying pigeons on the naturally system the birds are reluctant to exsercise around the house and sit on nearby roofs and only return when they feel like it, Can you get the bird to exsercies on the naturally system, They fly ok on a training toss. Thanks

Hi chris, and welcome to pigeon basics, first thing, it is difficult to keep them flying on the natural system, they want to come down and mate, sit eggs etc etc, and if your surrounded by houses and cant force fly them, it could be tricky! Are you feeding them enough? as they wont fly if hungry? is there a reason you have got them on natural? if there coming o.k from training, they should be o.k health wise? do they beat you home every time? sorry for all the questions, but a bit more info will be easier for us to help you.

hi mate , the only way is the amount of food you give them , your feeding them to much try giving them half the amount , been there done that .

try it and see you will be surpised and if you can a short training toss every day or every other day .

if they dont exercise with vigor get them tested (dropings) CHEERS KEV

hi m8 i wouldnt worry about it in the slightest i used to flag my pigeons to make them fly also but spoke with very established fancier and he said his only fly around 10 minutes also. so mine are left to potter about and has made no difference on race day wether thy`ve flown hour or 10 minutes around loft what matters is their happy. a fancier in our club this week sent his birds away without having been exercised all week due to his long working hours he got them all home and ws 5th club! although wouldnt recommend not letting them out all week lol

A little in mornings and a little more at night.

1/2 ounce morning and 3/4 ounze with a tip bit at nitght.

But you know, once they have finished rajging / roaming, just taking off and landing keeps them fit. Best place to observe. Then if possible  a couple of twenty mile chucks a week. 2 weeks before racing 20 miles every day in any and all directions. They'll be fit, honed and really ready too race. So no problems eh!

People tend to listen to too many and often they relate to old adages or myths etc.

On the roof they tell you their frame of mind and condition. On the perch when first entering the loft your first birds back.... but if done as a bove, most drop together.... that is when you know your loft is in form.

I know nothing about flying pigeons on the natural system. I think the ones that do it deserve a medal. Why not go to widowhood. No problems with young birds or eggs. No problems with exercise, just let them out, shut the door and go and have a cup of tea. Cleaning out is a doddle. Easy man. Easy!

Thanks for all quick replys, the reason i only fly natural is i only have a small loft with two sections, i am not sure if i can fly widowhood if the cocks can see the hens ive just started keeping racing pigions and havent started racing yet, i previousally had compertition birmgham rollers which i kept cocks and hens together, i plan to race next season but i need to know which system to use with my limited space, they all get good amounts of food, they are all healthy, they always beat me home. Thanks

Well Chris, in all honesty fly naturual for now... two seasons or so. have fun, yes heart ache and disappointment, but enjoy for a season or so on naturual. You will learn a lot, a lot quicker, and much that will stand you in good stead.

Have fun, time enough to go chasing after glories lol. Y/b's will win just same etc.
