Guest bakes Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 what are the distances the sprint birds do is it up to 100 mile or do they go over that as im wonting to race sprints when i get my shed sorted whats the best birds to look out for with sprinter janssens or van reets or could you use vanloons for this kind of racing.
REDCHEQHEN Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 You won't get many races at that distance - or less we only have 2 !! Many people class sprinters in different ways - time on the wing rather than distance - so a fast longer race would be a sprint race some people would say up to 200 miles others - up to 350/400 miles I don't know anyone with Van Reets - so couldn't comment on them
just ask me Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 wouldn't go too much on names look for a small team fancier getting results in a bad location don't have to have 20firsts in year so many of the so called names are watered down at this stage
Guest bakes Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 thanks for your information everyone much apreciated.
Guest blaz hear Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 the most consistent bird i have raced was a staff van reet . i have 3 van reets in my yb team .all 3 strains you have mentioned should be able to do most of the inland races . dont go looking at the big sales pitch of some of the big breeders . most of them that sell birds on hear seam to be decent bred birds at reasonable prices. i think you would soon know if it was rubbish that thy where selling .as members who have bought them would soon let others know.
Guest bakes Posted June 29, 2009 Report Posted June 29, 2009 ok thanks mate i have to try and see if i can arrange a few local visits to local fanciers then i see whats doin the goods over the distances get a few pairs of youngbirds in home them and start training them up as i dont drive i could only really train them around the loft but hopeing i make a few friends when i join coventry federation that could take a few further a field for me.
