edwards Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 young birds are not for loooking at they are there to earn there perch and give you an idea of what to stop early enough in the season and what to flog coming steady what bull so he can sit on the roof and laugh at ye when his home 80 miles is an out and out fast sprint trapping race under no circumstances can you lose a second and a bird being stuffed with mazie befor basketing from that distance is nuts put the young lad on the right road here . conditoning seed, homoform,g10s,goldenboost,adherb linseed oil, rice mix this together and give it friday morning at half oz each 80 miles mate id nearly sprint that me self .

pjc Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 if you normally excercice morning and night before feed then just do the same if you train, i would train early on thurs, let them rest during the day and let them have there freedom and a bath later in the afternoon before evening feed.

Phil, not questioning how you do things, but i never give mine a bath during the week, only because i was told when i started up not to do so, as it affected ther racing ability if have a bath during the week? cheers. im still learning to, so dont shout at me :-)
pjc Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 interesting Pete, i've found if they've had a hard week, training etc in the run up to a race they enjoy a nice relaxing couple of hours off and a bath. After the bath they prean etc and put there feathers back in good order for the race. What do others do? Maybe a new thread? Some still handbath on a friday morning to cool the blood!

Ronnie Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 i feed mine all they want for an hour a day(3pm) and on friday morning i leave the hopper down till 11am.I also lock my youngbirds out till feeding time. many roads lead to rome as they say you have to find what suits you and your birds.
edwards Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 is intersting lads baths are vital after hard tosses for relaxing the muscles not all about there feathers nice luke warm bath i would bath sunday. after a hard toss tuesday and thursday try this little test for your self befor you basket your birds for a toss around the 30 mile mark check and feel the muscles on both sides of the keel they should be nice and soft now on the return of the toss do the same the muscles lads will be hard this is were the bath comes into play it relaxes these muscles and helps soften them and your birds should be sent racing this way you couldn play football with hard tensce muscles lads this isn an argument its fact some lads couldn give a sh** and throw in there birds week in week out destrying developing muscles come yearlings the bird spends its time trying to repair the damage to late.
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I feed in evening about 1 hr before dark I put enough down so there is a little left over this should be gone by 10 am next day then I feed again for longer races about 2 hrs before loading I feed 33% corn ( maize ) 33% peas and 33% hemp, sunflower hearts, and safflower in addition I use coconut oil and infant formula with cayanne pepper

It will be interesting - I normally let birds have a bath on Sunday - but with the cr*p weather last weekend - and the equally cr*p race we had, there was no time So yesterday - they all had a bath - the first time they 've had a midweek bath - and birds were basketed this morning for this weekends racing I might point out - not one of the birds sent was in last weekends race - so we'll see how they do
Guest slugmonkey Posted July 2, 2009 Report Posted July 2, 2009 I watch birds to make sure all bathe No Bath = no race
