Guest llcoolj Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Somebody said if you train birds during full moon (Not night off course). they tend to loose their way back home. HOW TRUE IS THIS?
Guest stb- Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 not true as we would loose our birds every month at that time

Guest frank dooman Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 i think he means when the sun& the moon are in the same sky
Guest stb- Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 i think he means when the sun& the moon are in the same sky yes you can get funny races with that , but thinks its more to do with the clear skies with no cloud as thats the only time you see it, also often in easterly wind
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 Did Alf Baker not mention something in his book about this..??

Guest southern and mason Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 a dnt train on a day lyk that a think it nocks them off ther line of flight
Guest Owen Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 I do not know much about full moon and pigeons. But my Father followed the cycle of the moon when he was involved in farming. He did the same thing in his garden. He reckoned that the moon had a major influence on the animals and plants. All I know is that he was very successful at both farming and gardening.
dwh Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 my mate won't train on day sun and moon up 2gether don't know why we do and can't remember any probs!
Guest IB Posted December 1, 2009 Report Posted December 1, 2009 yes you can get funny races with that , but thinks its more to do with the clear skies with no cloud as thats the only time you see it, also often in easterly wind There was a spell towards the end of the racing season that sun & moon were visible here in the sky together from early morning for weeks on end. I agree with what you say about clear skies because its said the clouds obscure the moon from ourselves during the day, because it is certainly up there all the time whether we can see it or not. But that's just us, we are not creatures of the sky, and I don't believe for a minute that the birds aren't aware of the moon in the sky 24/7, or the stars too for that matter. But us seeing it during the day certainly seems to shake our confidence. ;D

jimmy white Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 i think he means when the sun& the moon are in the same sky if this is what is meant,,, i,e sun /moon in the sky visable at the same time, during the day, i have to say ive always found on these occasions a strange race can occur,, why, i honestly dont know, my only guess could be, as the homing pigeons seem to rely a lot, on the sun, for direction,, with both sun and moon visable,, could this possibly confuse them?
DOVEScot Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 The sun and a full moom were in the sky yeasterday :-/
ritchie1 Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 sun and moon up together is a bid thing to see no use will loose birds by the dozzens seen it happen just this year

Guest Glen Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 A full moon increases fertility, thats what my forefathers and natives believed. They would allways plant crops, pair livestock, and make and decant their spirits on a full moon.Glen.
