ron123 Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 can someone give me some advice?i had pigeons from the age of 10 to about 20 gave them up now now back with new loft 15 years later only problem i am located very westerly and pigeons i hear always come east cost so i am in trouble as i am shortest flyer and would be last to get pigeons probably with this location. i will start racing next year but would like to do my best first year help please!!! irish
pjc Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 not everybody can live in the best location, You can either settle for second best or set out your stall for the longer races where position isn't going to be as important.
pigeonscout Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 You should do ok with east wind
ron123 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 i guess i need to move house lol
ron123 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 thanks for the 2 replies i am really looking forward to next year long racing or east wnd one of them might work.
pjc Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 i guess i need to move house lol pm Mick Bowler, he is over on the West Coast, sent to his first race since moving there and won yesterday!
just ask me Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 well my advice is to buy pigeons that are getting results simalar location to your self also the same distance i always look for fanicers living in a bad location when buying birds like your self fanicers living in the west
ron123 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 yes sound advise to all.its really hard to believe how much has changed since i had pigeons.tell me were is the best place to purchase the unikon ets system i hear so much about.
Roland Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 Well you can't harness the wind .... just adjust your sail a mite.... But then again so can he in the East side :-/ :-/ :-/ Never mine the 'Bull' about trying harder, getting better motivated, fitter and better birds, Every fancier is trying that every week too. AS is he in the better location - position trying every week. So go for the 350 miles up wards. Forget balony about Breaking points, Any where will do, and saves money least needed to be wasted. Then only train Fit birds to Get fitter for you can't train a pigeon, or any creature to get it fit. It's called a 'Wing and a Prayer'. When your birds are on song and in the right condition, the right conditioned race will come up. Just hope your birds aren't bettered by some one West of you lol ;D ;D ;D But that sums it up. Good luck and enjoy as that is all most of us can do.
ron123 Posted September 13, 2009 Author Report Posted September 13, 2009 sounds good everyone here very helpful more irish should use this site and not be so stuburn to think they know it all. i am willing to learn and listen to good fanciers that know there stuff.most people i know are kind here but i want pigeons that are winning not last every week lol.

Guest wattle Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 you can win no matter were you live
Guest wattle Posted September 13, 2009 Report Posted September 13, 2009 the most importent thing is fitness, my pigeons are out from 10am till 6pm and every 10 minutes the are flying, and two weeks of that the are fit believe me.

Guest mick bowler Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 Ron, wind plays a major part but you also need good, healthy and fit birds and in the right hands you will hold your own. You cant get no further west than me in northern europe, unless you live on an island, and i'm nearly 30 miles west of the next nearest flyer and on average i fly 15 miles further than them with a mountain range in between to boot!
Wiley Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 if you get good enough pigeons they will win in any wind, one of the best pigeon sprint men i know is Micky Connolly and son of Canning town, and they are one of the most westerly lofts and still get pigeons to top the federation in a west wind. Good fit and healthy birds, and pigeons with the leaders you wont go wrong, no matter where you live you still need the pigeon up the front.
Guest kev d Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 i live in wellington somerset about 2 miles from the devon border ok i dont race on a weekly basis but flying way out west like we do down here if i can i train from a easterly direction , cos when racing on a west wind they have to dog leg back on track adding on may be 50 to 60 miles on there trip , thats why i only race in the NFC races hoping for a east wind to keep them on track if theres east in the wind west country flyers do well in the open result .
mark croker Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 I am in the same boat, they all said that i could not and would not win to this location, that i would need a miracle, they said only in east winds, and only at a big distance, The first young bird race (70 mile) I WON in a north west wind, 1st and 2nd, the are now callled mrs and miss miracle ;D ;D ;D
Guest spin cycle Posted September 14, 2009 Report Posted September 14, 2009 can someone give me some advice?i had pigeons from the age of 10 to about 20 gave them up now now back with new loft 15 years later only problem i am located very westerly and pigeons i hear always come east cost so i am in trouble as i am shortest flyer and would be last to get pigeons probably with this location. i will start racing next year but would like to do my best first year help please!!! irish join the club..i was (until this season) the shortest and most westerly loft in norwich nrcc. IMO, once established, you've got to aim to fly every race you can....particularly the ones other fanciers jib at....forget looking at the forecast...tough fit birds and luck:)
jimmy white Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 you can still win in your loft location, it may mean you will have your work cut out for yourself.,,,, there are, and always will be fanciers with better loft locations, so the better the loft system, the training, and above all the right pigeons and this can be possible,, and most good fanciers know a good result, when they see one, it might not be winning the race, but a very desirable position in the race, ,, they will know its a goodun lol ,, the further the distance the less the loft location counts , especially at club level,, and off course an east wind would suit best enjoy your birds, and try your hardest, good luck
the dude Posted October 24, 2009 Report Posted October 24, 2009 jimmy white has just answered your question
