Grit/Minerals whilst treating

Recommended Posts

Am treating at the moment with Paraty-Stop,and have been told to withhold Grit/Minerals whilst doing so, but it seems a long time (12-14 days) for birds to go without grit/minerals and was wondering would it be ok to provide same just for 1-2 days (staggered) or to stop treatment for 1 day, give grit, then resume treatment.

Your thoughts would be welcomed

Well I seldom, if at all,  put any out for them in race season. They have freedom out of the loft so find their own if they want it. When shut up, it's the same as it has become an habit. - Never bothered as mine were out 365 days a year. However, now with stock birds I do after burning the floor sometimes. I just sprinkle it on the floor whilst clean and before feeding. So 13 days or so won't hurt a jot.

You know, the most amazing thing is that 99% of any crop opened up will reveal Qualtz. Now where does that come from, and how eh!

Was a fellow on here that had access to Qualtz. Wanted to pop down and fetch some. Also of course a loft visit. Any one know where there is some then I'd be gratefull to know.

Yes the Tetracyclines will be ineffective if you feed any high calcium supps, as it binds itself to the drug. Also worth noting that if you are in a high calcium in drinking water area it can have the same effect.

Good post. The presence of calcium interferes with the absorption of tetracyclines into the body. In some areas they actually recommend the use of deionised (purified) water to avoid this.

we all use mixed grit just wondering has redstone any calcium content or is calicum un the oyster shell grit only?

Honestly can't say. Look at the label though, it should tell you what it contains.
