DAVIDL Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 yes, my birds always seem to exercise better after the racing season........couldnt tell you why that is though, maybe someone else can...........
leighton1984 Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 Have you stop giving all the things under the sun lol. they are not having to race so they have lots of energy.
just ask me Posted November 11, 2009 Report Posted November 11, 2009 i probably think its down to cutting down on corn as most are finished the moult and go on a lighter mix might be that they are now at there natural weight :-/
tommy.walsh Posted November 11, 2009 Author Report Posted November 11, 2009 i dont race my birds as yet but i do train weekly from 20 to 60 miles not during the moult but i try and push my birds as hard as i can...but they just seem to fly for much longer now they often go missing for much longer now and there not coming back with muck on there feet or anything else.they always have vitiams and grit in the loft...evan in the rain they stay up in the air for long times

Chris Little Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Our birds are never out from September to February
Guest bakes Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Our birds are never out from September to February yeah same as my mate does its the first time they been out for weeks wont be out again now for a while just let them out to stretch there wings all the best mate.
Albear Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Mine aren't out form September till April, however this year I hope to take steps to make life easier for them so I don't lose birds every time I let them out, Hope to get them out in Feb/March, I must admit again to being weird I don't want my birds in form this time of year, maybe stupid but I would rather they rested and moped than sail through the skies perhaps because disttance is my main aim? I dunno
Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 do the people who dont let them out . is that because of hawk problems or havent the time as its dark when you go to work and dark when you come home or is it because you want your pigeons to have total rest till the racing season

OLDYELLOW Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 i keep mine in due to hawk / percy , but would still do same if werent having any problems , i like them to have a stress free moult , and get the flights fully up so birds dont get sore , then breeding so effort and energy go in to rearing , once removed your starting with birds that need to get fit and build there fitness up from there , your more or less starting with a fresh bird imo

Guest stb- Posted November 12, 2009 Report Posted November 12, 2009 Mines are out every day dawn till dusk rain hail or shine. loose to many birds to the hawks if i keep them in during the winter as when you let them out they are not fit and streetwise. Some days they fly a lot otherdays they dont, but not bothered if they fly or not at this time of year.

Sore in the moult new one on me
