adam owen Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 how many cocks can u race succesfully in a 8x6 section and how many ybs can u race succesfully in a 10x6 section
Guest uphallhen Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 how many cocks can u race succesfully in a 8x6 section and how many ybs can u race succesfully in a 10x6 section 8 to 10 cocks and 25 to 35 yb that what i would put in the lofts.
Guest uphallhen Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 8 to 10 cocks and 25 to 35 yb that what i would put in the lofts. room for the birds is the key. ;)
adam owen Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 7ft at the back slopping 4ward to 6ft at front cheers 4 that uphallen
showman Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Using the Barker method.....12 birds in 8 x 6 section " " " " .....15 birds in 10 x 6 section Agree with Uphallhen room is the key. When I had the show racers, my team of old cocks was housed in an 8 x 6 loft...there were 9 of them !!
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 Space defo is a key.. but 25/30 young birds could live comfortably in a 10 x 6 section And you could have 9 massive nest boxes in an 8 x 6 old bird section.. Obviously ventilation has to be considered as well
adam owen Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 cheers for that i dont no if i can just keep and race 15 ybs with the bad yb losses we have i think ill have to have another section i can deal with the 12 cocks tho cheers to both. a question how big are your lofts sections ect and how many birds
adam owen Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 i dnt want to over crowd thas abig factor in racing i think ,theres loovers at front of each section and a strip of 2inches at front and back of lofts also its tiled
Guest mick bowler Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 I'd say 12 cocks, decided on number of boxes fitted comfortably on one wall, and no more than 30 YBs based on 2 sq ft floor space per bird.
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 yb sections 8 x 6.. 25 doos comfortably.. should add it has a 8 x 5 aviary attached to the side ob sections (when there eventually finished) will be 7 x 6 with 9 boxes in each
Guest rodders Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 personally i think venterlation is more important than space for birds when in loft in racing season should be sat on perch resting my yb section is 8x4 and i feel comfatable racing 30 yb to it my old birds are in 2 sections 1 is 7x4 the other is 4x4 for 24 old birds
adam owen Posted November 4, 2009 Author Report Posted November 4, 2009 can i ask y your sections are by4 not by 6 or by 8 like most is there a reason for that is it better than lofts by 6 or 8
blaz Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 12 cocks 8x6 30 yb 10 by 6.i will be trying 40 yb in 10 by 6 nextyear.tardis 8x6
jacksafc Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 In an 8 ft section you would comfrtably get 3 standard widowhoob boxes wide by 3 0r 4 high giving 9 or 12 but the cocks ae not keen on the bottom row of boxes, not sure if you would get 4 up and over boxes across an 8 foot loft by 3 high, that would be a better solution.
blaz Posted November 4, 2009 Report Posted November 4, 2009 i find the older cocks dont mind to bottom boxes
Guest ROCKYandRAMBO Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 ive got a 10ft x 6ft young bird loft with two sections and the number it likes is 35 any more than this and i lose them off the loft or training till theres only 35 in there again lol so next year i will only put 35 in there . my widowhood loft 12 ft x 8 ft with two sections 8ft x 6ft and it has 12 boxes in each section with 9 cocks in each at the moment would only like 6 cocks in each but got to the stage where i dont know what to out lol
maxwell Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 From my experience i would say 9 cocks & 30 ybs
Guest rodders Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 can i ask y your sections are by4 not by 6 or by 8 like most is there a reason for that is it better than lofts by 6 or 8 the main reason is i have problem with back and both shoulders and when i had 6ft wide sections i had less control of my birds and had the odd wild one flying past me up and down section now with 4ft i am on top of birds so more control i also find that yb,s bond easier
adam owen Posted November 5, 2009 Author Report Posted November 5, 2009 thanx guys your info has been ahelp its all been taken on board will let u all no how it goes next year cheers
Guest HEATHLOFTS Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 8 to 10 cocks and 25 to 35 yb that what i would put in the lofts. IF THE Y/BS ARE GOING TO BE RACED THEN YOU COULD PUT SAY 50 TO 60 YOUNGING IN THERE BECAUSE YOU WILL LOSE A LOAD IN TRAINING AND ON FRIST RACE ETC THATS WHAT I AM STARTING WITH 50 Y/BS IN A 13FT /6 FT LOFT THEY WILL BE IN ONE SECTION AT 6FT
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Cant agree with that.. that's the cause of many ybs losses.. too many birds in one section.. better being more selective with the young you have a giving them plenty of space.. rather than as many as you can all crammed in because you assume your gonna loss loads
showman Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Totally agree with Jonesybhoy......you put 50 youngsters in a 6ft section and you can guarantee losses will be great.....why not think about their welfare and give them a chance.
Guest JonesyBhoy Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Yeah mate.. i started with 26 ybs in an 8 x 6 section with an equally big aviary. Well trained to 40 miles for a month.. never dropped a doo till the 4th race, which turned out to be a disaster..!! Lost 8 that day If hes gona have a 10 x 6 section 30 doos would be very comfortable in there
showman Posted November 5, 2009 Report Posted November 5, 2009 Nearly agree with your numbers for 10ft section JonesyBhoy !! ....but he's talking nearly twice the number in nearly half the space...disaster waiting !! Think of the birds welfare...not how many you keep !! Quality, not quantity.......an old adage, but sure carries a lot of truth.
