I replace the water in my loft once a day.

In the past few days of freezing weather, the water in my loft keeps freezing up after a while.

Is there anything i can do to stop this?

thankyou

only if theres a wind try taking the water in the kitchen of a night and putting back first thing or buying a heat mat

the drinkers in my loft are constantly freezing. i take warm water down twice a day and feed....after some food they normally drink. theory is that they'll have a good drink . just seen forecast ...thaw seems a little way off...good luck :)

but i do have a heater in the loft for early morning and lights with dimmer switches on

so the heater stops water freezing not the ping pong ball

well if its the ping pong stopping it you must have a draughty loft as it only works when ball is moving or it isnt cold enough

not draughty just has not been as cold as most other places if one freezes t only freezes like te top thats it and if the heater went on it could of made it melt by the time i am in there

Well Warm water will freeze quicker than cold straight out tap. Some put salt in  :-/ Yes but makes them thirsty and want to drink more.... worse if it does freeze then.

Yep a Ping pong ball helps.... like ducks sitting on the lakes. -  That is why there is often thin ice. But the best dfence has to make sure there is no draught. Closing the botton vents off might help  :-/

Fortunately I am able to replace if and when need be. Yes had a couple of days replacing. So I feed a little in morning and then place the water before them. Again at night, and then place the water before them again. Also they can do with a little hemp or maize this weather to combat the cold, for that will keep them warmer.

i add a bit of salt and some sugar and cider vinegar it keeps it from freezing completely the ping pong ball will keep moving on the surface mainly by water been disturbed and air passing by it  :)

and certainly dont put antifreeze in water because it would kill the birds

we,ve had about 8 inches here i'm 5 miles inland from blakeney...trouble is it keeps thawing a little...then re-freezing. we've not seen alot of salt either...but we are small isolated villages so i suppose they have to concentrate on population centres. bet northrepps was fun this morning(dizzy). i mean it's not that bad, but like you say 'we're not used to it'. not like all the hardy scots on here anyway  (evil) (evil)

I take the water out at night, Replace it in the morning, If it re freezes during the day, then thats to bad!!

Have`nt got the time to fuss about them like some. They are pigeons, they can cope alot better than you think.

Just look at steaming hot race days when flying 400 miles plus in 28 degrees, they get home!(most do)

I don`t think this weather bothers them to much, At the moment I let my hens out one day and the cocks the next, what ever the weather, today the hens went out in 2 inches of snow, they flew for around 90 minutes or so and then back n they came.

I have kept pigeons for 30 years, they are clean, they race well, don`t suffer illnesses, never have huge losses throughout the season, I feel they are well looked after, but find that there is no need for all the flaffing around that some do.

That is not criticism to anyone, just my opion.
