Guest cosmic dave Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I have been surfing all the sites to get as much info while I build my loft. I have come across some info saying you must keep your loft between 10-30 degrees. How can I keep a well vented loft at 10 degrees in the middle of winter ? Do any of you heat your lofts ? :-/ David

Tony C Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I personally feel a spell of sub zero temperatures does nothing but good for our pigeons.

pjc Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I personally feel a spell of sub zero temperatures does nothing but good for our pigeons. totaly agree, it kills of many germs etc. Heating is realy only of benefit during raceing to help reduce the humidity and maintain a dry atmosphere within the loft.
bewted Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 start heating lofts and you have respiratory problems too somewhere along the line if not enough ventilation in order !!!
ALF Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 -3C in mine this morning. Same here and a lot of the loft front open to let in plenty of fresh air especially in the stock loft I paired up 8 pair of stock doos a week past fri/sat 4 pairs are already doon 2 or possibly 3 might lay tonight and the other pair better get the finger oot :P ;D ;D ;D
Guest Hjaltland Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 -3C in mine this morning. Likewise, -3 when I fed mine this morning before going to work, sputnik trap left open so snow round the opening. The drinkers sometimes freeze so I carry out some warm tapwater. It seems to do no harm.. I'm even having problems with the hens pairing up and laying. (they're on a strict 1 ounce or less per day with high barley content)
pigeonscout Posted February 3, 2010 Report Posted February 3, 2010 I personally feel a spell of sub zero temperatures does nothing but good for our pigeons. I agree sub zero temperatures kills a lot of problems that could be in the loft. If I could aford it I would have under floor heating not to heat the loft but to dry any damp at this time of year. Turn it on for 30 mins each damp morning just to dry the floor.
