JAS Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 As soon as she lays put a dummie egg in could be the cock or hen sitting to tight. We had this last year 2 nests broken told to try this and worked straight away. Told its normally old stock and it was a old cock that we had the problems with
Tony C Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 If there’s no signs of fighting going on perhaps one of the pair are sitting the eggs to heavy, slip a dummy egg in the nest so they’re effectively sitting three eggs. The solid egg will hopefully bear the weight of the heavy sitter
Guest Owen Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 If these birds are as good as you say, it would be worth making up a pen just for them. This way you will not have the other cocks fighting them and smashing the eggs. If I had a cock that good I would use him as a Bull and get 20 or so youngsters from him including a pair or three from his usual hen. That way you may be able to identify more hens that match with him.

Guest Owen Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 Just a thought, are you giving these birds fresh grit and minerals every day? And are you giving them liquid calcium in the water. Maybe the eggs are soft shelled. If this is the case, you will never be able to rear anything any good. That is why the Bull system is so good, you are not relying on just one hen.

gulkie Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 when u shift there eggs slip them a pair from another nest if u just want to allow them to rear a couple of young.
walterbmasson Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 jimbhoy did you put dummies under them after eggs smashed she would need 10 days before you try them again if not more good luck
steve d Posted February 16, 2010 Report Posted February 16, 2010 I would be content on moving the eggs to other birds m8 if the are producing the goods, however what i would do if u are insistent that you want then to rear a youngsters is as follows. 1. Pair them up the same time as another pair. 2. once they lay remove eggs under the foster pair and replace with pot eggs ( this ensures no breakages) 3. once the eggs under foster pair chip remove one pot egg and slip them a youngster, the 2 pairs will then single rear a youngster each. This is what I would do if you want them to rear, good luck ;)
