pigeonman007 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Hi all One of my cock birds doesnt seem to be doing a great deal of sitting. Have noticed with my other pairs the cock usually takes over around 10 in the morning and sit until around 3 in the afternoon. However I have one particular cock that is only on the nest for around an hour and it seems most of the incubation is being done by the hen. Is this anything to worry about? The eggs are 12days old and fertile
Guest pigeon82 Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 i had the same problem one of my hens was to keen it was her first round and every time the cock went near the bowl she battered him but the baby grew up fine i think just a keen hen
pigeonman007 Posted March 4, 2010 Author Report Posted March 4, 2010 Could well be the hen she is very protective of the nestbowl
Tony C Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Take note if its a very keen hen sitting or a cock thats not bothered to much sitting. If racing natural this will give you a clue as to which one to send it that nesting condition.
jimmy white Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 Could well be the hen she is very protective of the nestbowl could well be this pigeonman, , but need to watch theres no other spare hen in the loft, that the cock bird has taken a fancy too ;D,,,
greenlands Posted March 4, 2010 Report Posted March 4, 2010 I have a hen that won't leave the nest at all but for a drink. The cock will go into the nest box and sit along side of her or nearly on top of her, they have hatched a pair of youngens and continue with this antic. If I get chance tomorrow I'll get a photo.
