I pick my birds up this week but am not sure how to feed them, do I put the food in and leave it in the loft all day or do I leave it for an hour or so and remove the feeder and put it back later in the day ?  :-/ :-/

feeding all deepends on your goals and whether you race or not hence you will get better answers, are your ambitions short, long middle distance ect?

when you first get them (i take it they are baby's0 leave the corn in front of them for a few days but take it out at night, make sure you dip there heads in the water so they get the hang of it

then  add 25% barley to the mix feed them a bit at a time, and soon as you see them starting to leave barley stop feeding

always use a rattle or whistle when you feed them so they know the sound

What is do as mine are all young birds and i want them to become tame and associate me with food and home, is to make up a small 2 foot by 2 foot table and place a handfull of feed on it at a time untill they leave a bit, i do this in the morning and in the afternoon when they return from being let out. after a while they will actually start eating out of your hand. I put the feed in a tin can when i am in the loft, so they know the noise, this traps them quicker as whenever they hear the noises they think "yummmy, food!"  ;D

good luck  ;)

My advice is to just enjoy your birds during the first week. Just keep talking to them, let them get used to you and your voice. They will likely be strange to you, and their new loft, so they might not eat freely for the first couple of days. Put their full days' food in the hopper, put that in the section and call them to it.  Lift their hopper at the end of each day - never leave feeding out overnight, you'll attract mice. And make sure all feeding is kept secure in a plastic or metal container, lid fully closed.

After a couple of days they will come to meet you when they see you carrying the hopper, and hear you calling them.
