shaun h Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 hi could anyone tell me what times i should be looking to get from my pigeons from training wednesday i took them 40 mile away it took 46 mins for me to get the first few back. on thursday i sent them on a 20 mile or so it took them 29 mins to get first back is this ok i know the weather will make a big differance but just on average should i be looking to get a lot quicker time from these or are they nearly on it. or is this poor.ps these birds are still not flying the full hour round the loft only getting about half our from them.
Guest vining45 Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 depends on wind but i would be happy dont want them to fit to quick
blackdog Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 all depends on the direction of the wind mate, on the nose will take them longer than a tail wind ;D
OLDYELLOW Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 early days yet and cold i'd be happy with there speed , let them out before they train then they dont mess about when released and head straight home , small 5 mile increase trick is if they beat you home send them further if dont bring them back to last toss
pigeonpete Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 i would say those times were good mate, depends on the wind etc etc, took mine an hour from a 4 miler! ;D
shaun h Posted April 2, 2010 Author Report Posted April 2, 2010 on wednesday they hit rain on way home think it was a north east wind and yesterday the got in a smash with another lib so i heard not to good on winds and that yet but the other fanciers who i trained with says the had it hard with the weather and that i had abird that as not long been settled go back to its old loft which is approx 3 miles past mine it got there at 25 min with there first batch it come back home few hrs later .

Guest bakes Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 i would say those times were good mate, depends on the wind etc etc, took mine an hour from a 4 miler! ;D did you let them exercise before basketing them up pete or just basket them up and took them as find the birds come alot better after they have had a good exercise as they dont mess about as soon as there libbed there up and gone on way back all the best.
demolition man Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Traning never worries me, its only race day that counts jmo
Guest lenwadebob Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 As previously said, let them out for exercise before you basket them up for training. Don't worry to much about the time it takes them to get home. Some days they will take twice as long as other days, but that could be down to a number of things, wind direction, rain en route, clashing with other pigeons training. But what ever the reason, it is all a learning curve for your birds that they can put to good use on race days. If your birds home from A to B in a straight line when training and then encounter, a drag by other birds in the liberation, or a smash with another liberation, then they get confused, because they haven't got the experience.
The Navigator Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Training is of no importance on times. It's about getting them fit and educating them. Race days are completly different. You have more birdage, more breaks for them to pull out etc. The wind of course is a major factor. Like one comment earlier. Many have had quick trainers and long trainers.
Tony C Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 I've never won a training toss yet ;D If they're leaving the lib point straight away and they come of the line theres nothing to worry about.
