REDCHEQHEN Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 We still haven't rung all our birds yet (and still have 5 FUTURITY rings (shrug) ) A pair we were going to put FUT rings on were chipping out yesterday - one did - and was trampled - the other is still alive in a very sqashed egg - but looks weak now (you can see the beak and part of face - egg is squashed further down) Do I just 'wait and see'? I might add - the cock is 10 years old and the first round was clear
gingell Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 egg being crushed i would help it out and see what happens what you got to lose :)

pigeonpete Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 Doubt it would survive if you just left it, would dry out very quickly, either try and get it out or im afraid it eont make it, how far was it off hatching?
gulkie Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 in the past i have tried to help them from the shell but they never make a racer, put 10year old cock back on the drive a couple of days after the hen lays switch their eggs to feeders. good luck

OLDYELLOW Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 yup if not strong enough to enter the world then not any good , its natures way survival of the fittest
Guest bakes Posted March 30, 2010 Report Posted March 30, 2010 yup if not strong enough to enter the world then not any good , its natures way survival of the fittest have to agree if not strong enough to break into this world no way will it be strong enough to race against other birds that have had it all natures way of saying the survival of the fittest.
REDCHEQHEN Posted April 2, 2010 Author Report Posted April 2, 2010 It hatched out OK - will wait to see how youngster progresses before ringing it, but is feeding well and gaining plenty of weight
jimmy white Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 It hatched out OK - will wait to see how youngster progresses before ringing it, but is feeding well and gaining plenty of weight if the youngster hatched ok,is lively , feeding well, and gaining normal weight,, can see nothing wrong with this
Guest frank dooman Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 It hatched out OK - will wait to see how youngster progresses before ringing it, but is feeding well and gaining plenty of weight if its off a 10 year old it hasnt lasted in your loft if it was a numpty and the reason the egg got damaged was down to fighting i would agree with the comments that birds that need help from the egg are normaly no good but i might make a exception on this case but keep it till next season to race as jimmy says if all looks good then just wait and see but if in doubt later it has to go
Guest IB Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Well done the little fella ;D Born fighter.
