Unfortunatly thats pigeon racing for you. I would be honest in saying that you cannot really blame your birds non-return on BOP (entirely). I'd say there may be an underlying problem, although training does not show that, or my feeling is that the birds were not up to it, either no good or too inexperienced.

I hope you get them back and go upwards and onwards.

I have admired his enthusiasm for months now.

That same enthusiasm will make the lows very low and the highs very high.

The unfortunate thing about latebreds is that they seldom make good racers. There will always be one which makes the grade but I feel their failure is down to not having enough experience to cope with a race situation.

I am happy that one has returned and may have lifted his spirits a bit.

Best bet now is building for the future and I am sure that future will bring rewards.

I believe we forget a couple of underling factors. A. We in reality have no idea how they home. Thus there are many factors of course then that we have no idea, indeed can’t, about. What they are... Obviously ones we don't know.

‘Fly Away’s’ Theories, lame excuses in reality are often spouting, for we just don’t know or have any idea.

Usage of the tongue with glib and bland crap scenarios, not least 'Over Crowding' etc.

We just have to accept and say 'Sod's Law' or whatever. And of course ‘Over crowding is a myth.

Further, I believe, many forget then first big 'C' of the three the all-important 3 ‘C’s. 'Contentment’. Without this, from the earliest start in life, nothing else can have an effect. 'Control', thirdly 'Condition'. Now that is impossible also to get with out the first big ‘C’! So yes many don't race home. So yes, many just bugger off.

Then there is days like Bakes and we all have... 'Whatever; days, and we won't ever, I guess, know why.

Whims and qualms to suit us is commonplace. But we don't even understand the basis because we don't know. Only so called 'Tried and Tested' practises that seem to work.

Like the second most used load of Crap spouting, that all-important 'Breaking Points'!

It is and must be a fallacy, one that seems to work for some ... not the fact that they are getting race 'Conditioned' and fit with mileage under their wings.

Gosh in reality according to the wind, many days we would wish / hope that the birds aren't anywhere near those 'Breaking points'. Yet most say 'Know when it's a good birds... when it comes between those trees there, or ‘…over them chimneys’  etc. Which means it is 'Conditioned, and the wind is in their’ best favour.

Other will work back Bakes I'm sure, certainly hope so, and many will be better for it. etc. etc.

Good luck

nice to hear 1 has made it but as Mick b said they may well have just not been upto the job!

Bops will pick of weak or tail end birds in a lot of cases and the birds have prob become exhausted yesterday becoming easy targets.

sorry to hear about your bad day yesterday , but like mick said you can,t blame the hawk for every one of your

birds not comming back how did your club mates get on returns wise if they had good returns then you have to start thinking

what went wrong on your part . last season i started with a team of yearlings there first race was fourgers 200 miles with the NFC

i sent 7 yearlings got 4 in good time 3 of them still comming . at the end of the day you have to sit down and be honest with your self

are your birds good enough if not do some thing about it , i know what your going through ive been there but if your determined enough

you will succeed but be honest with your self . good luck for the rest of the season kev .

I'd hesitate to talk about good and bad birds, with or without BOP. We now know what happened to one racebird. The common thing between all these birds is that they are latebreds. I think most will agree these are very difficult to race, and there has been advice on the forum to start training them from May (summer) as yearlings, and race them as 2-yos.

I've not had any success doing that, so last year as yearlings I treated them just as YBs and tried to put them out to 225 miles. Only 2 did that, dropped others (4).

dont think you can blame bop for not getting any home unless the rest of your club had bad returns as well , you can get late breds in the best condition but at the end of the day there not mentally fit in the head and by treating them like an old bird you will lose them , with late breds you need to give them time this year they just need training then race them when they are two , but pleased bakes has one back but think of the future and the future in your loft is your youngbirds put all your efforts into them and with bakes i know he can have a gd young bird season

well said klaus you are now sounding better as novice said your enthousasam is great to see and will  stand you in good stead later but because of that the down you went through yesterday is made worse but at the end of the day you have just experienced what most of us have allready went through but just because they were all late breds the truth is you were at a big disadvantage to start look to the y/bird season thats where it will get better  ;) ;)
