Sorry Numpty, but I think some of these so called, "Know All, Know Nothings" need to be "wised" up to the devastation/destruction that re-introduced BOP are causing on Nature's balance and our hobby. I live in a rural part of Norfolk where little, or no new housing development has taken part for many many years. What has become apparent is an abundant population of BOP in the past 4 years, and an ever decreasing population of songbirds. If the songbird habitat has been removed in the development areas, the birds don't just die, they move out to more rural areas, so where are they??? The answer is simple........ Fallen foul to BOP.

 

i dont think its that simple in my view. bop numbers to me are getting back to normal natural numbers. the balckbird is the most common bird in britain, more so than starlings and feral pigeon but there not vermine so left alone.

i think you like to use the old songbird population to help fight your case, my view is that pigeons are the staple diet of the peregrine in towns and country, maybe not in coastal areas.

im jot even going to deny prettended your birds aint being attacked. just trying to get a better understanding.

i like all birds, have had a fasination since i was a boy. but to me the wild population is more important that say demesticated pigeons. i see it as a selfish view. you realse what is a demesticated bird into the wild and you get angry when it is prodated, wouldnt these prodations help your breeding stock? help get fitter and stronger birds in the long run?

i have witnessed a perergrine nest and i have seen a few rings ill admit. more than i thought id find. but then again i was drown to the ring and missed loads of other leggs thatw here in the area. i watched these peres and they do have a tendancy to catch pigeons, manly feral with the odd woody and a few wader birds as there is a resvoir near by. but it did get me thinking. is it because your pigeons bunch up when comming bacj into roost when they get targeted?

although i dont agree with loads of views i dont think its not happening. the worst thing to hapen in my view is ppl going out ruining nest for there own sake if all the birds are hunting is pigeon.

 

 

Goshawk, you could be right as even when ppigeons exercise they are bunched, and most other birds of their size tend not to bunch. I don't agree that nests should be ruined either, but fanciers should be given the right to protect their birds.

 

If we were somewhere foreign where wild animals roam and a big cat or bear kept killing your dogs or pets would you not want to do something to save them?

 

The RSPB have created the divide, they refuse to communicate, just ignorance and arrogance, basically live with it or else. Many years back, before it got out of hand all rings found at nest sites were handed to local guys or the RPRA, but that is not allowed any more, i wonder why?

Holy cow, thats a lot, especially when they reckon a female will clear the nest regular (so i am told). Its not the parents that consume so many its the feeding young. The Derby project recorded around 12 feeds a day last year, that does not include mum and dads snacks that will be taken away from the nest. These birds are not stupid, They will take the easiest, most abundant prey available to them, which in some areas is racing pigeon. I don't know if it ever been done but i'd like to see a map with predator nests (real numbers not RSPB bull), and racing pigeon densities of lofts and race routes. I'm sure we would see a pattern emerge!

 

i agree id also like to see the numbers, but dont you think ppl are looking into it? id hope they are. i think leing or hiding the truth is no good for any party involved.

yes no doubt you have seen wood pigeon and racers in the same car boot .as a lot of us have had birds back shot we are not saying all birds lost are down to bop .but bop are making a big impact to our race birds . as for poxy peregrines being rare that is bull . i have one that comes round i have only seen it twice in last week and neighbor seen it ones. and yes soon as it takes one of my birds it will be the new target .it might doge my shot or it might not . but with a case of beer on it,s head dead or alive one of the young guys will claim it that's for sure . a few years ago they shot one in my street . one of the old woman in the street told them she was going to phone the police.after the laddies told her what they had shot. she said that,s ok i thought you were shooting the wee birds . not that murdering so and so .yes it is against the law to shoot a bop .most air guns only injure bop but most cant hunt when injured.just like how your bird cant race when a bop has had a go at it

You think the racing pigeon owners have it bad, what about the tippler flyers. Last year I lost one bird to hawks every time I released a kit of tipplers. There has not been a time put in by tipplers in the Bristol area for quite some time. (Soon as the hawk takes one you get disqualified.) I ended up with just 2 tipplers at the end of last year. They have not been released this year as of yet as I have to build up stock. Spoke to the NTU secretary not long back and they now have 2 members left in the Bristol area. 20 yrs ago there were thousands of tippler lofts in Bristol.

it does you morron, buzzards are very aggresive and have had two mates whos birds have been killed by them. its a fact of life, we dont belong there and  wild bird does. i do my best to stay away from them or protect it with all the legal means i have.

I flown many raptors for many yrs had many of good season flying raptors at game, but now i have reverted back to a sport what i participated in many yrs ago. Unfortunately  no one will be able to do anything about the wild raptor taking racing pigeons These are wild Peregrines that are doing just what comes natural to them and unfortunately they cannot distinguish a feral pigeon from a racer harsh i know but true........ I don't think ppl should be taking it out of falconers for the fact they fly BOPS a responsible falconer who flies long-wings will either fly at corvids or game not a pigeon fanciers prized possessions....

ive no problem with a responsible falconer and neither would i like 2 see there birds harmed as apart from a few i think they fly there birds responsibly as for the wild 1s now they are a different kettle of fish  as for some quite unfounded comments in regard they do not know the difference thats rubbish as you can see by numbers of race rung birds taken in comparison 2 ferals/woodys....and the other old chesnut they take only sick birds  do me a favour more top racers are taken than you think,   but  the rspb are very clever in the way they turn everything into there favour and joe public soaks up all the rubbish pushed in there throats......you must also understand some of the sites members lose birds daily 2 the percy so you must also realise there anger at the very mention of percy....also this is a free forum and good honest  debate is welcomed ....so keep your dummys in and put over your points....
