rasbull Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 There was a good letter in the Daily Mail today on the letters page from an ex RSPB member criticing the RSPB of doing all they can to protect BOP while the songbirds were becoming wiped out as they stand by. It said about the numbers of BOP being at an all time high and how they are now being placed in towns and cities as there is just no room in the wild for these birds. I was thinking if everyone wrote in regarding this letter that the paper might be inclined to do an article on the topic and we would gain some great publicty for our continued problem. The letter called for a cull of BOP and we should support this letter and make good use of it! ;-)
Guest bigda Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 the rspb has found there answer to the the demise of the birds they say its the global warming and have sanctioned the killing of parakeets http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-443733/RSPB-backs-cull-Londons-30-000-parakeets.html

rasbull Posted March 17, 2010 Author Report Posted March 17, 2010 There was another letter as well in todays Mail, different from the article in the link Bigda. But all good for raising awareness I feel. Its just a shame that there isnt a whole lot more of it!
OLDYELLOW Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 shame the guy inside the R.S.P.B dint remain at his post and changed from within , however could be a good spokes person with good insider knowledge of the R.S.P.B
Guest strapper Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 the ring neck parakeet is the one....they didnt believe how the bird has adapted so well. it has reached beyond all expectations. i find it hard to believe that a ringneck parakeet would fight for nesting places with anything under the size of a crow.

Guest Blaydon Racer Posted March 17, 2010 Report Posted March 17, 2010 They should rename this collection of numpties the RSBP-(Royal Soceity Birds of Prey ) If a sparrowhack eats just 3 small birds a day thats over 1000 a year x that by the increased number of sparrowhawks and it ain't rocket science to see how it would have an effect on the songbird population Never mind as long as these meddling do gooders can enjoy congratulating themselves on the great work they are doing in protecting BOP we shouldn't complain should we, after all they know best ---its obviously the farmers/Global warming /cats/ pesticides/ changing habitat- to blame.---As Jim Royle would say "MY *expletive removed* "
