Guest Owen Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 Just a point, the Guy that used to live next door to me had an Eagle Owl tethered to a perch, no more than 6" from the pine end of my loft. There was a conifer hedge between the gardens but the pigeons could see it clearly when they were outside the loft. And incidently, the neighbours used to be in the habit of having a gang of their friends over for barbecues, kids and all. The pigeons got used to it all. I have seen the birds come through the barbie smoke on their way to landing at the loft. The only sign I saw that the pigeons took any notice was the way they shot through the trap when they landed. But the point is that, they never took much notice of the Owl. The thing I found a bit iritating about the Owl was the fact that it would sit there making a mewing sound about every ten or fifteen seconds. Someone commented about cats. I saw him with a cat that had got too close. The cat never had a chance.

Guest Blaydon Racer Posted April 2, 2010 Report Posted April 2, 2010 We, ve got 3 Owls --A snowy a Barn and a Tawny (I would add some pictures if I knew how ! ) I had the bright idea of having the barn owl one day while the pigeons were out to keep the sparrowhawk away--while the birds were coming in to land he flew onto the back of the loft and the pigeons were off like a shot and some of them were still flying 2 hours later !
