NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 hi all what are your views on the bull system for breeding my own view is that the strongest sperm gets through first so each time he covers another hen the sperm gets weaker and weaker so at the end its like potato water
peterpau Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 Have you tried it. I have a friend that uses it but I would think it's best used on a small number say 4 which is the number he has. I feel you may be right if you use say 10 birds. Be interested to know your results.
celtic Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 DOC White was known to be good at the bull system ;D ;D, rumour has it he's still trying it yet :o :o
jimmy white Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 ;D ;D ;D ;D just noticed that celtic ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
jimmy white Posted March 10, 2006 Report Posted March 10, 2006 the bull system , westy is basicaly, having one stud cock and so many hens, kept seperately, allowing the cock to tread each hen every day, so that all the hens lay and you can foster the eggs,so you can get more ybs at one time from the one cock, theres more to it than that but thats the basics , dont try it yourself ;D ;D ;D ;D
celtic Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 westy, That was from the voice of expierence ;D
westy Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 thanks jimmy sound complicated would not try it anyway just wanted to know what it is so i can impess my dad ;D ;D ;D
THE FIFER Posted March 11, 2006 Report Posted March 11, 2006 I ALWAYS THOUGHT THE BULL SYSTEM WAS TO WAVE A RED FLAG IN FRONT OF UR LOFT TO GET THE BIRDS CHARGING HOME, ALWAYS WONDERED WHY MY CLUB MATES KEPT LAUGHING AT ME EVERY SATURDAY:-0
Guest speckled Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 ;D Lol have used the bull system myself, never found it a good stsyem, at all.Like jimmy said ya get ya best cock, :-/ pair it to ya 4 best hens, but ya can be dam sure the first hen ya pair him to is the one he will take to, the best,Oh ye he will tread the other hens, but not as he did :-/ the first hen. :-/.Ive had good stock hens really beaten up buy the cock, once the first hen has layed her first egg. ??) So i would not use the system. The good thing about it was that the first hens eggs where full,so thay got floated,as was the second hen i paired him to, but the other two hens, :o all thay got was a beaten up.Well that what happened to me on the bull sysyem lol.Speckled. :)
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 you have to vary the order start 1st hen on day one put hen in leave for 15 minutes or until you are sure the cock has tread then take out for 45 minutes put in next hen ect you should always give at least 45 minutes between hens on day 2 start with last hen and go in reverse order keep hens where they can see their mates but not get at them usally I start day 3 in middle of order and day 4 go in opposite order of day 3 just make sure you try to get all hens in front of order if possible if you give time between hens and have hens properly motivated it is easy to pull 12 in a day
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 most bigger breeders use some form of bull system YOU HAVE TO KEEP THE BIRDS SEPERATED to make it work properly you cant just throw 4 hens in with a cock and make it work if it is done properly you can get a LOT of babies off a stud cock as a cock is used on this system they get used to it so it is easier to do the more often you do it
NANCYVIEWLOFTS Posted March 12, 2006 Author Report Posted March 12, 2006 good bit of advice slugmonkey would do that way if i tried the bull system but do you think that the strength of the sperm weakens
symbro Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 body gets used to reproducing sperm fast... i just feel sorry for the bull cock when your hens finially lay all their eggs... can you say blue balls!? anyways very important part of the bull system that has been failed to be mentioned is each of the hens has her own cock... they are kept seperated but in the same next box so they can pair up. then all the cocks are removed so they can not see the bull cock tread their hen. once the hen lays her eggs you allow her paired cock to have access to her (no longer worried he will tread her instead of your bull). he will accept the eggs as his own and help raise them. i have a good website that discribes the process. let me see if i can find it.
symbro Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 http://www.pigeonnetwork.com/articles/NigelCowood.html i had to do a web search to find it again... but here is a rather good day to day explaination of the bull system.
Blue Chequer Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 I have used the Bull system but made the mistake of using a hen which had been paired to the Cock previously, this sort of interfered with the business as he was never very interested in the other 3 hens. I don't think the sperm gets any weaker, just watch a Cock Sparrow. One thing that did come to mind recently when I was being given advice about Fancy pigeons was that the Cock only provides the jacket all the good qualities come from the Hen? worth a thought. I have an open mind on this. Blue Chequer.
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 I think the hens part is downplayed I dont think it is as important that the cock only mate with one hen I think you dont lose anythink bull breeding
Guest slugmonkey Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 see tail end of bull breeding post I think some of these guys are just putting a cock in with a bunch of hens and expecting him to tread them all
symbro Posted March 12, 2006 Report Posted March 12, 2006 whoops this was supposed to be a reply to the thread "the bull system"
