Wiley Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 lol think everyones got same opinion lol get rid of them lol
Guest Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Seriously no good on distance birds they dont get the rest they need other than that dont think they do much harm
Guest Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 ;D was told by an old hand not to worry ............ race horses have a jockey racing birds etc etc ........... ;D andy 8)
stevebelbin Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 Agree with Wiley - get rid of them!! Dead easy, i use a product that has permethrin in and one spot on the neck kills them all. Must be better for the birds not to have them.
Wiley Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 ;D was told by an old hand not to worry ............ race horses have a jockey racing birds etc etc ........... ;D andy 8) lol you must be on a wind up andy lol or he was taking the p*ss lol no lice are good, does the jockey suck the horses blood? lol didnt think so get the lices out, they irritate the birds also and doesnt allow them to rest effectively. Lice are not good at all for distance sprint or whatever birds.
madmaxlofts Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 i used to use performa bars was great then they took them off the market now i use 1 spot
Guest Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 wiley lice dont suck the pigeons blood ,MITE do ,lice live on dead skin etc and are no threat to the pigeons ,the more lice on a pigeon means that the pigeon is shedding more skin ,scales and must mean better condition not think so and yes north wlaes novice you are correct in saying that my friend , i
snowy Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 plenty of strong stinky old garlic water for bathing helps the lice & mite to keep at bay, & sometimes use the spray.(johnsons)

jimmy white Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 wiley lice dont suck the pigeons blood ,MITE do ,lice live on dead skin etc and are no threat to the pigeons ,the more lice on a pigeon means that the pigeon is shedding more skin ,scales and must mean better condition not think so and yes north wlaes novice you are correct in saying that my friend , i i woulld agree to a certain degree,, mite are deadly,,,, lice ar not so bad and feed as sammy says, but a pigeon with an ailment which cannot produce proper oil from oil gland on its back or is , for some reason ,not preening itself as it should would have more lice on it than usual,, but the odd lice on a pigeon would not do a lot of harm, in a healthy pigeon would make it prune itself more , keeping itself cleaner and feathers in better condition, ive judged showbirds b4 ,penned the day b4 and found the odd lice on many of them, its the mite that makes them stamp and dance ,or it mite anyway ;D
Guest beautyhomer Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 I have never given a red card to a pigeon with even one louse on it at any show that I have judged. There is no excuse for it,pure lazyness
THE FIFER Posted January 10, 2007 Report Posted January 10, 2007 plenty of strong stinky old garlic water for bathing helps the lice & mite to keep at bay, & sometimes use the spray.(johnsons) yes u have got it snowy, the best thing for keeping ur birds klean, garlic in the bath water, best easy and safe, done it for years, also put some garlic water in a spray bottle and spray in the loft will get rid of flies and moths, and the smell is good for the birds, the same in the bath it gets to their nostrils good for them, great stuff. if ur a gardener spray it on ur flowers will get rid of greenfly etc.
Guest Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Tammy i sure did many a time i was there to judge the pigeon not to judge lice or mite and i cant for the sake of me understand why people who judge nock back good pigeons because of lice ,as Jimmy Whitre said you mostly get lice in dry feather ,
Guest Posted January 11, 2007 Report Posted January 11, 2007 Thought that a healthy bird and a clean loft and good management would keep the bird free of lice. What do I think? Well I think we know that they don´t bite or suck etc, but what do we know about what they actually carry? Going back to ye olde bubonic plague wot wos the best contraceptif known to man, wasn´t the black rats, wasn´t the fleas they carried, it was what the fleas carried that was the real problem. Thought much the same about the odd ´house?´ fly buzzing about the loft. Just where ave you been and wot are you carrying? Áre you a problem in here that I could be doing without?

Guest shadow Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Try using good old fly and wasp spray works well and cheaper than any pigeon products
Roland Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 Lice good points... cleans and keeps the quilts in fine fettle, many leave - especially in Belguim - for this purpose. Bad points, well, the handlers moan when basketting, most believe that you aren't looking after your pgeons properly ... some, like doo man says may keep the birds unsetled at night, but have yet to see, outside of the 'Fanciers' what harm they are doing, infact mostly good. We go along with the crowd and just believe lol.
Guest Posted January 13, 2007 Report Posted January 13, 2007 SPOT ON ROLAND EXCACTLY WHAT I HAVE BEEN THINKING ,CHEERS
