Yer a nightmare Sammy!   :)  EU Law: animal feed containing it must say so on label. If you are feeding it you should already know so from the label on your bag.

Only common 'pigeon' food I know that is grown as a GM crop is Maize. (Soya bean too, but think it less common).

Saw an advert in BHW couple of years ago about maize that was 100% sugar. Question & answer on it on Winning Magazine at the time: contributor said this was impossible unless it was a GM crop.

It is not how the food is grown that would bother me it is what it is spayed with to keep insects etc off it. I know the stuff they spray apples with can only be removed with warm water that is so the rain does not wash it off. I watched a TV program where a guy washed one apple and put a caterpillar on the side of it and it went up and over. The same caterpillar was put on the side of the apple that was not washed the caterpillar fell dead before getting to the top it took about 5 sec's to kill it.

Oi! Wasn't having a go Sammy,  :)  your second post gives and makes the point you left out of your first, that contrary to what we are told, we will not be eating GM Foods or be feeding it to our animals, without our knowing about it, because 'contains GM ... ' should be clearly stated on the product label.

What you are telling us now IS a nightmare, that it is in food  and we don't know about it, and I hope (1) the people who bought the product have reported it to the appropriate authority and (2) people will boycot the companies involved.

Quick question,

How much safflower (spelling) do you feed and when do you feed it.  Am feeding to my breeders and Ybs right now

I wouldn't give mine no more than 5% at this stage, I'm led to believe its not the easiest thing for babies to digest. I would use it as part of their trapping mixture.

have to agree with tony, safflower is a good seed but if u look at all the breeding mixes ist never in there, safflower is a good seed to use while racing tho mate

i think sammy has a point here , when you look at a field of wheat for instance, nowadays, the stem is far shorter and the ears are far bigger, thus providing more wheat [or more money] the grain is certainly not the quality we had years ago, off course theres good years and bad years for growing it, and theres years where the grain contains more moisture than others , i beleive its like the battery hens ,laying yukky weak eggs compared to free range hens,,its mass produced for more money,,,thats the way of the world now

What is so really really sad is that this earth - in just so many parts, grow enough food to feed 20 billion a year!!! there is only 6 billion on  the planet!

Britian is also paid to grow shoots and fill in... and amazingly this goverment has been a big culprit is subsisiding the 'Wild Life / abitat more than any gentry Farmers's party. Farmers paid to leave 'Commons, encourage hedges etc. etc.

Now I am all for that.... The thing that pees me off is two fold.... Man's greed in allowing the millions to die of starvation every week or so, and the cobblers of Genetic feeds, both seeds and animals.... There really isn't any ned... unless of course it means more profits for less.... which we see is, and has been  the way since the year of dock!
