Turbo Jeff Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 Just wanted peoples opinions if i should fly natural or widowhood, the trouble is i work for myself and am never in at the same time everyday to give birds regular routine which people say widowhood pigeons need. Next year 2008 will be my first year flying old birds and i only have 8 cocks and 5 hens, can't make my mind up if it would be better to race all the loft on natural or just 8 cocks on widowhood. I know i could fly roundabout but i havn't time on a regular basis to let cocks and hens out at same time everyday. Am i wasting my time racing a small team from my back garden on natural when competing against lads in club with 40 birds on widowhood.Would i be better just trying to get my 8 cocks fit and healthy and flying widowhood. I know it also depends on what distance i am trying to fly,my club race program starts at 112 miles down to 500.

jacksafc Posted December 10, 2007 Report Posted December 10, 2007 If you dont have a lot of time i think widowhood, natural birds need a lot of work and generally a lot of training. A lot of widowhood flyers only exercise once a day.

I know it also depends on what distance i am trying to fly,my club race program starts at 112 miles down to 500. some time ago a very goodfreind of mine [now deceased] flew natural most of his life racing pigeons, after a transporter fire he was left with 11 cocks and 5 hens [ this was b4 w,hood really took off] but these 11 cocks were let out at the crack of dawn each morning left with an open loft all day long then got in about 6pm and a shutter put down so they were more or less in the dark ,,the hens were kept in a seperate small loft with his yb,s [the cocks couldnt see in ] he kept them in on basketing day putting the 5 hens in just b4 going to the club , he never trained them ,yet had a great season in fed and club ,,a bit unorthodox but prooved the old adage," theres many ways to skin a cat" best of luck to you
Guest casbri Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 if you fly natural think of all the training the birds want....if you fly wdowhood you just let them out morning or tea or just once a day to suit you... its your choice ..

Agree with you Mr Moore (casbri) - we raced natural upto 5 years ago, (and still won on that system) then moved slowly onto widowhood when we felt the pigeons needed to, not as much work needed on widowhood, definately the system for people who are working or their time is limited - I would also race then hens if you can manage to get them out also, we have found that our widowhood hens need plenty of training.
Guest Posted December 31, 2007 Report Posted December 31, 2007 all members in my club race natural, and there has been some good success at it. double national winner, combine winner, and multi fed wins amongst our members flying most northern club in the fed. natural can be a very good system to fly,i topped the fed over a shortish race against many widowhood flyers...if ur birds are right then ur in with a chance. ..paul.
