theres a lot of fanciers who only reckon they know what there looking for in eye sign, thats why so many people go wrong with it,i use it always have,i started looking at it at 13 yrs old,the old eye sign books were a load of nonsence and crap, ive picked top breeders out in a few lofts and also picked birds out that will only breed rubbish, but many other factors come into it aswell, being a good stock man helps a lot and a good judge of pigeons,i use it always will,it works for me and ime happy with it,everybody has the rights to decide themselves thats what makes keeping pigeons interesting,we shudnt pull people down who believe in it and also the same with people who dont believe in it,everyone to there own.My best ever breeders had eyes like diamonds, never failed breeding winners.keep smiling lads, all the best.

Spot on Les, those who knock it don't understand the benefits of using it as a tool.

There are many top fanciers who use it but it doesn't mean they shout about it!

i was lucky enough to own a pair of breeders that were class they were put in with another mans pigeons to be judged  there were a lot of  pigeons there that day  he picked out the pair not knowing they belonged to one fancier and said if bred together would produce winners after winners  well that pair were together they had produced winners at every level for me and others i belive there may be something to it just cause we don't fully understand it doesn't mean it does not work

Maybe we should just hold an Eyesign Show every Friday night to select Saturday's winner.

We all have a few pints---take our birds home and no losses on Saturday.

It doesn't work like that, eyesign will tell you the potential but the owner has to get the best out of the bird, condition it, motivate it etc before it will win!

Eyesign is like reading the palm of a hand nothing more, there has never been a shred of evidence that it works neither has there been a shred of evidence to say it doesn't work.  Some people beleive it most don't.

People have every right to knock eyesign as a load of baloney because its never been proved.  Sure your going to have people come out and say I've won this and won that purely down to eyesign but truth of the matter is the bird won because it had two wings and was faster than any other bird on the day.

If someone selected a bird out of approx 70 not knowing anything at all about those birds and it bred winners for him would you not say that was evidence that it works.

No, rightly or wrongly that would be classed as sheer luck. I've picked a bird out of more than 70 not knowing anything about it and it then went on to breed winners for me, I used the look, shape and feel of the bird and nothing to do with the eye, there's more evidence that this is a better way to select a bird but that's just my opinion and many others.  All down to opinion not evidence.

if the said someone could do it time and again yes.

But if he did it only once no.

Also what if an eyesign man was invited into my loft to pair up for me and i had no decent birds would he tell me to cull them all or would he suggest the best pairing and say put them together thus letting me breed crap and discrediting himself and the theory.

personally i believe there is something in it but its not the be all end all.

lol would love someone to come and grade my birds and pair em for me cos i can never make my mind up

I bought a bird from Louella that has two completly different eyes :)  his left eye is orange and his right is violet.  doesnt mean a thing to me as long as he can see out of them both.  i hope it doesnt mean that when the wind blows from his left side he is going to be sh*t and when blowing from his right side he will be good ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

but if someone repeatedly picked birds out then that is evidence

No it isn't, its co-incidence.   ;)

its not coincidence at all although you can get a bad bird with a good eye but thats usually down to the management rather than the bird

theres a breeder in bristol that has a family he claims he can pick out because the birds he owns have diffrent colours eyes  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D but eyesign has and always will have bearing on selection of birds .along with other factors?? local fancier only picks birds by eyesign and wins aweful lot races from 50miles to 500miles so coincidance not chance in hell . i find that novices think they know the ins out pigeons useuall talk rubbish but the older wiser fancier knows there are number of issues in selecting the best one win dont make the grade as exspert it takes years for fanciers to reach most decision.s on what they think is right ???for them

nothing funny about that some familys can be identified by there eyes and yes eyesign and good animal husbandry is all you need

many years ago i went with a friend to a fanciers loft nr Banbury, i'd never been there before, he showed us a new stock cock he'd just brought without giving us any information i told him what it was bred from! a guess, coincidence, no, just new the charictoristics of the familys eyes.

I was in another loft in Leighton Buzzard for the 1st time, the owner told me all birds were of same family, when we were going through them i picked out 3 birds and told him they wern't related to the rest, and again spot on, they were from an outcross but looked identical to the rest of the family, all blues and lt chequers!

Eye sign is a tool not an end all you have to use it in combination

race your birds hard then pair what you have left by eye

I would never let some one cull in my loft by eyesign

another thing is, is the guy reading the sign an expert ( I am NOT ) or is he some hack that read a book !!!

I have handled a lot of good birds ( not that everyone hasnt ) and MOST have the same charachterstics THIS is what I look for in an eye ( at the END of the season !! )

;D ;Dall aspects of a bird denotes the best not just eyesign??????in 2005 i put hen into a eyesign show the comments made were we may as well take ours home ?nearly everyone wanted to handle that hen and everyone said i have not seen eye like that in years two wanted to buy her ??// that hen never bred or raced any good full stop but was used purely to get turky and poultry for christmas ? so everyone has there own idea on eyes and its use . and there is poster on here with hen that has bred loads prize winners but has crud eye ;D :P

as long as they have two that will do for me, once went to a show racing pigeons eye sign, one man took two show birds along, guess what, he won it ;D

look at family's of birds within your own loft and you will see different charactoristics in the family's.

A while ago I think it was Jimmy Bulger posted some eye pics of his birds look at them and see how different they are but in some ways how similar they are!

Eye sign is only a tool but used in the right way along with type, constitution etc etc its very useful!

I am not convinced by the whole eye thing.  there was a top American eye man that visited a very good loft in South Africa when i was growing up.  i am not going to name any names here as the man has since passed away.  he went through the entire loft and his conclusion was that only three birds were worth keeping!  Strange thing was that one of the three that were worth keeping was a stray, and the other two were bought in at a yb sale!

All of the lads combine and fed winners and their parents were condemed as rubbish and not worth keeping.  it is when i heard this that i decided to let the basket decide what is worth keeping and what isnt.
