Fair Play Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Strange you say that about the jacket I always wear the same hat but changed it to a baseball type cap went into the loft birds went mad went out changed it back to old hat re-entered and no problem, strange things pigeons.

Guest Freebird Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 De-sensitise them by doing everything. Different hats, clothes etc. The more they see the better and they will get used to it eventually. Then when they land on race day not much will spook them. Some birds you will never tame though, just like people it is in the breeding.
Guest IB Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Same colour of 'loft clothes' is a must, I think. Walk slowly amongst the birds, inside and outside the loft. Have them walk by you too. Talk to them all the time, in my opinion its your voice that exerts best control them, they do what you want even when they don't want to, and are not hungry.. I also have false ceilings which limit the headroom, and small sections 5 foot x 5 foot, which basically stops birds flying inside the loft, they can't really fly by me when I'm in there with them. Deep perches that the birds retreat into when you approach, and a hand held up in front of the box stops them trying to leave. Feed (and water) birds in their boxes.
Guest HEATHLOFTS Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 thanks guys i will try peanuts agai
MikeMason Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Once they get used to them after a few days. They'll be addicted to them. Both cocks and hens love them but the hens especially. I have about 8 hens who will land on my shoulder out of the sky wanting a peanut!
Guest mick bowler Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Spending time with it, lots of it!
clayton moore Posted March 29, 2010 Report Posted March 29, 2010 Ignore them when in the loft reat them as if they are invisable if they are on the ground walk through them.dont walk away from them.Feed them tasty tit bits like crushed peanuts Dont throw things down place things in such a way they are not shocked or frightened by you.Treat them as you would treat a nervous aunt Dont shock Dont frighten Dont be a bully to them in any way.
